3. That about sums it all up, doesn't it. Either that, or a rewarding career at a service job at around
the min. wage. It's your choice! Death or poverty?

6. I'm currently out of work
so in the meantime I took a job at a certain DIY story (with the initials HD). I make in 2 weeks what I normally make in less than 2 days, but it's money coming in and it gets me out of the house. What is amazing is the brain power of the people working there--former bank VPs, mortgage brokers, legal secretaries...really, the person that waits on you in one of these stores is a lot smarter than you might think!
I do have a couple of good leads, and have been on some great interviews, so fingers crossed, very soon I won't be wearing an apron at work!

4. Well, let's see . . .

* Reduce to non-existent the options available for HS grads not ready or not interested in college thanks to offshoring almost all manufacturing/industry/factory work - check.

* Insource entry level positions in non-outsourceable professions - check.

* Make the once-middle class compete for shit service jobs once the area of teens/college students - check.

* Make college ridiculously unaffordable and student loans harder to attain - check.

* Teach corporate-favoring, worker-hating Friedman economics as the norm in Econ 101 across the country - check.

* Offshore white-collar jobs and lower corporate tax rates to where they feel the need to "rightsize" rather than expand so college graduates will have very few options - check.

Looks like the deregulation-happy, laissez-FAIL capitalists who are in bed with the MIC had a plan that worked wonders.

Oh, and pretty soon, this is going to be your only option for a comforatble retirement.

In the immortal words of Johnny Rotten . . . "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"

7. Check, check, and check
looks like they've hit everything on your checklist.

Now we're suffering for it. :(

8. Business Card Unemployment Art Project
Join us in creating something ironic out of nothing. We're collecting business cards of the unemployed with the intention of making an art installation out of them. My husband, a plumber, just got laid off after 16 years of loyal service to his employer. We were talking about it and the discussion ended with "...and all I've got are these lousy business cards." Altho' I am a new poster here, I've got plenty of warrior history, starting with the 1970 campus War Moratorium, the fight for the extension of the ERA, etc. etc. I'm a Dem thru and thru. This art project is just a way of not feeling so impotent. Read all about it here and send me your story if interested. brothercanuspareadime.blogspot.com/

10. You want fries with that?
There are LOTS of folks on DU who prefer this to having a 'draft' ... since it's easier to express disapproval from the comforts of a home and job without putting their own ass on the line and reasserting the sovereignty of "We The People"!
