2. Something else I haven't heard mentioned in this discussion:

the taxpayers paid for the Alaskan pipeline. The promise was, of course, pie-in-the-sky, free-oil-for-all-Americans. Can anyone speculate how much of that oil the American taxpayers have seen in 30 some-odd years since the pipeline was built? I'll save you the research time: Nada! It's sold overseas for profit and the American people have not seen ONE DIME of their investment back.

Now, someone want to explain to me how this will change with offshore drilling?
