Well, poop.
There was a time when I could verbally eviscerate a person at forty paces. Over the years I've been working on becoming civil in my discourse with others, especially when they are being deliberately uncivil. That transformation has apparently rendered me unwilling to respond in a knee jerk fashion that generally requires an apology. Thus, I stood at the counter at the post office today, my mouth hanging open with no words issuing from it.

When asked the usual questions about the box I was mailing I answered that it was just a T-shirt and a campaign button. The postal worker behind the counter glowered and said, "... if it's an Obama button maybe we'll get lucky and it'll burn up." When she realized that I wasn't laughing she just muttered "never mind" and gave me my change.

Unwilling to subject my fellow patrons to the outburst that was begging to be indulged I spared the worker the tirade she so richly deserved. Sadly, the air inside my car was not so lucky. And now I have to go back for the stamps I forgot to buy, but I'll be wearing my Obama shirt when I do.

1. A belated "Fuck you, asshole" is better than no "Fuck you, asshole" at all
:hi:

2. You could always remind her that damaging the mail is a Federal offense...
or...
You could tell her that you are surprised that she actually is as dumb as she looks...
but that is really not civil discourse..

3. I'd ask for the supervisor and lodge a big time complaint!
That is simply unacceptable. I think a postal employee threatening to destroy mail should be welcomed into the Bush unemployment miracle.

4. Yes, McCain policies would have been such a benefit to postal workers
Jesus Effin Christ what are these people thinking.

Don't even bother saying anything, it would go so far over her head it would be like you never said a word.

5. I'm just about speechless. I don't expect postal workers to make political comments! Then again,
I don't expect newspapers to write ME back and bitch, which happened to me when I lived in the fundie nirvana of Colo. Springs!

6. It used to be that postal worker was an honored job...

You could trust them, they were good and proper and kind. Now I only think of dumbasses going "postal"... what the hell happened?

See, this is one of those times my daughter dreads... I try not to embarrass her these days cuz I know life with me hasn't always been a party:) But I would have been loud and outraged, and demanded to have my full money AND my box back, and I would have demanded to see the person in charge.

I just have no patience left for stupidity. George Bush has ruined stupidity for everyone. There's just no fun in it anymore.

7. Well Poop
This is the first time for me to post. I have followed the DU
for weeks leading up to the election. The information shared
here with others members has been outstanding. The enthusiasm
was wonderful to share. Your post was one of the best yet. I
compliment your restraint as I also try the same type of
behavior when confronted with similar situations. Your plan to
go back to the post office wearing the T shir is PERFECT and
so very much more effective than words. I am 70 yrs. young and
my husband is 73 yrs. and disabled. We did make calls and
knock on doors for the campaign in a politically hostile area
in Florida. gecko

9. Ask her if she'll be one of the 40,000 layoffs at the USPS
the first layoffs in the history of the Postal Service. Remind her who tanked the economy so bad to cause that one.
