People joining KKK by the thousands not due to racism?
Got into a discussion with a guy who claims that race is a non-issue and that people are joining the KKK and other groups because of "militant behavior" he has witnessed with his own eyes. I have yet to see any militant behavior besides the hillbillies buying up guns and preparing for "the end". How much pro-Obama militant behavior have you all witnessed lately? ha! These people are in such denial. They can't admit that their main fear of Barack goes back to one reason, he is black. Plain and simple.

1. All I know is, if a race war comes, I hope the other side will have me
Because I sure as hell don't want to be on the dumb white ignorant bigot side.

8. HA ha!
I didn't say I believed that their numbers were increasing because of non-race issues...But the huge jump in membership is not made up. These rednecks are scared, they are buying up tons of guns and gathering together. There's a lot more of these nutjobs than I think people would like to admit. I'm not afraid of much but one thing that scares me is ignorant people in groups.

32. I've got to agree with you there about the ignorant people in groups and
I think a lot of it has to do with spreading their message on the internet. Who taught them to use computers?

3. Where is your information on the "thousands" number coming from?
There has been a huge uptick in race related crimes and activities be it graffiti, hate speech, etc....I think the Republicans owe this Country a huge effort and apology to fix this issue now.

6. The number actually came from a local news report
out of Louisville Kentucky. In one instance the enrollment went up from around 90 on the day of the election to over 2000 the day after. That was just one group. I guess they had so much traffic on their website, they ended up going offline, thank goodness.

36. No mention of thousands suddenly joining hate groups...
on the Southern Poverty Law Center site. I would think they would be up to speed on that.

37. Ummm, actually that's where the report came from.
Southern Poverty Law Center were in Kentucky due to a lawsuit they had filed in a KKK beating of a young man. Channel 32 in Louisville interviewed them and got those numbers. You can check the WLKY website for it.

14. Those are just the people acting out currently...
the thousands refers to membership in a hate group. I would not expect all members to have committed a hate crime... so I could easily see thousands joining. There is a lot of hate bubbling up.

17. No they will not. Hate groups are a very real threat and the election has been a boost for them...
It is pushing people over the edge. We are seeing an uptick in hate crimes.
They are not a figment of the imagination as much as we would like to think they are.

9. The only domestic militant action I've seen recently
was against peaceful protesters at the two conventions. If that guy really believes the KKK isn't about hatred of others who don't share their race, sexual orientation, or so-called religion, his is beyond all hope of reason.

that has took off a little bit around here... He claims he isn't a republican (but I have my doubts) and he's not a democrat. He's more of a Ron Paul sorta person. He's into all kinds of government conspiracy theories...Most of it is rather bizarre.

30. Well, that is who the KKK types of groups target.
People who are so afraid of "the other" that they feel they need to take the law into their own hands. :( Sorry to hear that kind of activity is ramping up in your area. What state do you live in?

38. I live in Kentucky...
He lives in Southern Indiana. Indiana actually seems worse than Kentucky as far as organized hate. I rented an apartment in Vevay Indiana several years ago. It was a part of a huge manor house. The landlord lived in the same house in a different section. Not until I had lived there for over a year did I find out that my landlord was the grand-dragon (or whatever the highest rank is per state) of the KKK. He invited us to a "bonfire". LOL! Needless to say, we kept on driving when we saw who was there. The following week we were in a new apartment as well. They live around us and you'd never guess who they are.

40. It's everywhere, you can't blame this kind of hate
on just one region. I come from rural Western Massachusetts, and the racism I grew up with was blatant and disgusting. The day after the election a black church was torched about 10 miles from the house I grew up in, maybe 5 miles from where my son and his wife just bought a home. It doesn't surprise me in the least. :(

13. HMMMM the KKK
These idiots would stand just off the school grounds and pass out KKK pamphlet shit to my kids years ago in NC.

I also remember when we lived in rural VA my son and his little friend (black) both around 7-8 were exploring out in the woods near our place. They ran into a klan meeting. It scared them to death. All they did is tell them"you boys better get outta here if you know what's good for you". To two little boys they looked very scary.

They attract the same kind brain dead people as the skinheads. These types are are so inferior they have to pick on the innocent to make themselves feel important.

Unfortunately they maybe getting many people to join, hell knows they are good at recruitment. If the politicians and some local churches keep bad mouthing Obama and the fact that THIS year so many black people voted it might get some weirdo's stirred up enough to join..

39. Good! Let them join the KKK. It will make it easier when we have to round them all up.
For reeducation camps, where they learn to say "please," and "thank you," and other words so they don't have to communicate in grunts and clicks.

Anyone found to be a member of the KKK should be tried, and sent to prison for no less than 10 years if found guilty.

I'm afraid that would open up a can of legal worms that we couldn't control. A law like that would be abused by conservatives. It would turn into a regular Salem witch trials repeat...

43. Perhaps
But a way around that would be to specifically target the KKK as a terrorist organization in the vein of Al Queda. Chances are if you decided to join an Al Queda cell operating within the US, you would be arrested or detained at some point. I worried that groups like PETA and Greenpeace would be treated as terrorist organizations post 9-11 but that did not come to pass.
