Larisa Alexandrovna: GOP Needs An Exorcism
http://www.atlargely.com/2008/11/memo-to-gingric.html

Memo to Gingrich: Your party needs an exorcism

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has this to say about Sarah Palin:

But Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the party’s leader, as some have predicted.

“I think that she is going to be a significant player,” said Gingrich during an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation”. “But she’s going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She’s not going to be the de facto leader.”

Ah, if Palin is part of "20 or 30 significant players" in the Republican Party, then you have not learned your lesson well. Right wing extremists, racists, an rabid nationalists don't ever need to be mainstream for any reason. What the Republican party needs in an exorcism frankly.

The lunatics who are driven out (as they should be) can go back to the KKK (since they seem to think that all Muslims are terrorists, and black people frighten them). Or they can go back to their snakes and oil and perverted version of Christianity (since they seem to think they live in a theocracy in which Jesus is represented by the golden calf ).

They can continue do their weekly talk shows about how cartoons are making their kids gay. They can have demonstrations demanding that the Constitution be replaced by the bible. In other words, they can do whatever they have always done, so long as they do it far away from government and are never given a seat at the table again.

As long as Palin is considered a player, even at a Republican poker party, they will continue to to alienate the rest of the nation and the world. So if the Republican party wants to embrace these people, then they should be prepared to never win another election again.

3. I think we've already seen what happens when the power of "Christ" compells them.
Personally, I think they should go for a lobotomy.

5. Hey, let's start a r/w fundie party!
Christy Todd Whitman wrote a similar editorial published just today. They're absolutely right!

Let's give the fundies their very own political party, kind of a r/w version of the Green Party. Call it something kinda romantic and well-coded like the "Life" Party or, even better, "God's" Party. What fundie could turn that down? We can create it, invite them to join it, and then we can leave. I have no idea how to start a political party but I'd help get it started. And since the Republican Party no longer reliably embraces them, the fundie/Christian supremacists need another political home, one where they can be open and uncompromising about their beliefs and their values.

6. Christie Whitman was crucified in Fweeperville
for her suggestion that the GOP needs to try and reach out to moderates. The bile and venom was extraordinary even for the Cheeto-dust snorting mouth breathers at FR. The Freepers want to march off the cliff behind Palin and dominionism. I heartily endorse that direction for the Repukes. The impending political suicide of the gas-huffing wing of the Repukes fills me with joy.

12. God's Party
would be perfect. That's basically what Hizballah means in English. I vote for that name on the sheer irony alone.

9. The republican party can go away. If we are to have a two or more party
system, it would be better to elevate a party or parties to the left of the Democratic Party.
