Hollywood out of step with American morals: poll
Edited on Mon Nov-17-08 05:15 AM by really annoyed
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – A majority of Americans say Hollywood doesn't share their moral values, according to a poll commissioned by the Anti-Defamation League, a group that fights anti-Semitism.

Sixty-one percent of those surveyed said that religious values in America are "under attack," and 59% agreed that "the people who run the TV networks and the major movie studios do not share the religious and moral values of most Americans."

The poll, titled "American Attitudes on Religion, Moral Values and Hollywood," was conducted by the Marttila Communications Group, which surveyed 1,000 adults nationwide. It was released Friday at the ADL's annual meeting in Los Angeles.

"These findings point to the challenges that we face in dealing with issues of religion in society," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL national director. "The belief that religion is under attack underlies the drive to incorporate more religion into American public life. Disturbingly, 43% of Americans believe there is an organized campaign by Hollywood and the national media to weaken the influence of religious values in this country."

(cut to poll results)

Nearly half of those surveyed -- 49% -- believe that the United States is becoming "too tolerant in its acceptance of different ideas and lifestyles

Nearly 40% support the notion that "dangerous ideas should be banned from public school libraries," and nearly the same number disagree with the statement that "censoring books is an old-fashioned idea."

1. And 59% of that 59% are lying. They eat up Hollywood and LA's movies and TV shows.
Any time any pollster asks many people about religion or morals, they're going to SAY they're offended by things they routinely search out.

3. No doubt. I'd like to know a little more about who did this "survey."
I'd like to know if the people being surveyed understand the difference between the actors, the writers and other performers and the producers, studios and moneymen who decide which crap gets made.

I'd also like to see the wording of the questions, too.

I smell a push-poll.

2. If By Religious Values They Mean "Love Thy Neighbor"
then I agree that the media (especially Faux News) is guilty as charged.

devastating than showing a gay couple wed and be a family...

That and violence and the love of the F word (which sometimes I pleasantly adore, but not around my impresionable 4 yr old-- and yes, I do control what he is allowed to be around and to watch).

7. I'd Need To See The Methodlogy and The Actual Questions. . .
. . .before i buy any of these results.

This sets off all the alerts of pushpoll that was designed to get the answers the sponsoring body wanted.

9. Hollywood has been self-censoring it's productions more and more over the past 25 years
if you go back and watch movies from the 70's, you'll notice that the mores grounding the film are less restrictive that today's movies by a long shot. Hollywood has consistently censored itself in an effort to appease social fundie whackos, which has resulted in LAME movies, so much so that the primary source for decent movies these days are independent and foreign films.

Films released from Hollywood generally suck, in large part because of this attempt to sanitize reality.

So all this poll shows me is that people don't know what they hell they're talking about.
