A dream about Obama
I remember vaguely dreaming Obama doing something really positive. This is very much to the right direction:

"(CBS) Kroft: When the price of oil was at $147 a barrel, there were a lot of spirited and profitable discussions that were held on energy independence. Now you've got the price of oil under $60.

Mr. Obama: Right.

Kroft: Does doing something about energy is it less important now than…

Mr. Obama: It's more important. It may be a little harder politically, but it's more important.

Kroft: Why?

Mr. Obama: Well, because this has been our pattern. We go from shock to trance. You know, oil prices go up, gas prices at the pump go up, everybody goes into a flurry of activity. And then the prices go back down and suddenly we act like it's not important, and we start, you know filling up our SUVs again.

And, as a consequence, we never make any progress. It’s part of the addiction, all right. That has to be broken. Now is the time to break it."

I sure as hell hope that DU consumerist crowd are ready to follow Obama where he must go if he stays true to his pledge to end oil addiction in 10 years. That the DU consumerists would start to see the big picture, as it seems that Obama might see, and what it takes to achieve a Real Change - lot of unavoidable suffering and putting your country and Earth before your own selfish needs. So no more declaring very sane and modest measures like tax increase on gas politically incorrect and what not, please.

1. America's oil addiction reminds me of an obese person on a diet
They lose 5 pounds, and congratulate themselves by eating a chocolate cake. As someone who was obese and who now is at her proper weight, I can tell you that you must stick to an eating plan not just for a little bit, but for the rest of your life, even if that means never eating something you really like again. Instead, you learn to like foods that are healthy and good for you.

Well, the same discipline is needed when it comes to energy consumption. What I'm waiting for is "Dr." Obama to prescribe the "diet" we need to become "energy healthy".
