Rich enough to get a much better hairpiece.

He wouldn't get a hairpiece in black or dark grey to put on top of a bald light grey head of hair.

It probably matched when he got it. Rug wearers are vain pretty much by definition, and so may not be able to process the information that the real hair is going gray. (Third-generation rug spotter here. :-) )

I argued that surely with his bucks from the Heritage Foundation that he'd be better able to afford a matching piece.

Never realized he may not even be able to face up to his own hair having gone greyer than the piece !
