According to the nutjob that commmented on this article about Prop 8, anyway:

I'm referring to the first comment by LJB, although the second one by Wildman Bill isn't much better. (Note Bill's use of the word "loose" instead of "lose". Must be a freeper.)

1. I guess they've never heard of the U.S. Constitution.
They think that just because people vote to disband parts of the U.S. Constitution (USC), then that vote is valid. It would only be valid if actual amendmendts to the constitution were made.

In Colorado, people said the same thing after our Amendment 2 to the state constitution. However that amendment took away gay people's rights to participate in the government. That is a right granted to all Americans by the USC. Amendment 2 was overturned in the historic Evans vs. Romer case.

I wonder if the right to wed will be upheld? So far the Supreme C has not stood up for the rights of people in many cases. Maybe if gays declared themselves a bank. Then we would be treated better.

2. You could point out the long and shameful history
of abuse and discrimination against homosexuals. From public burnings and torture in the Inquisition and other religious "wars", to Nazi camps, to being forced into mental asylums here in America until fairly recently, there is a long history of hate, violence, and discrimination not only from individuals, but from institutions and governments.

3. If one more person says to me they voted for Prop. 8 out of "love..."
...I'm going to smack them on the head with a shovel.

Note to self: Put shovel down. Walk away. Religion can be as toxic to the brain as lead or mercury. They are insane. Is there a cure?

6. LJB is talking out of his (her?) ass
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 01:49 PM by Rob H.
"This issue has been decided by the voters of California and should be upheld by the courts, regardless of whether it is politically correct or not."

The unintentionally hilarious (and deeply sad) part of using that argument is that it was the CA state Supreme Court that ruled that disallowing gay marriage is discriminatory and runs counter to the CA state constitution. Then various groups of rabid homophobes such as Focus on the Family, the American Family Association, the Mormon Church, etc., came in from out of state and campaigned hard to get Prop 8 passed. LJB clearly hasn't been paying attention.

There is one thing I do agree with, though...

People are sick and tired of a small militant group pushing their agenda through the courts, forcing the rest of us to deal with their lifestyle choice.

...but that's how I feel about Rapture-ready, right-wing fundagelical nutjobs who seem to think it's their business who people fall in love with, not my GLBT friends and family members.

Edited for clarity.

7. Some real nutjobs commenting on the paper's website.
The best so far has to be our friend "Wildman Bill," commenting on the spelling and grammar of another poster...except he spells "grammar" wrong. :) (And had previously substituted "loose" for "lose".)

8. Well, that's what I've heard on DU
Even by some "gay" DUers. Note the quotation marks.
