Bryan, who like everyone of our generation has a soft spot in his head for the David Bowie/Bing Crosby rendition of “Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth,” has obsessed for years about another number done by the two of them.

He insists that the two of them also did a beautiful rendition of “Do You Hear What I Hear?”

Normally, I would dismiss this kind of insistence as either a faulty memory or a dream lodged in the back of his head that made him believe he actually saw it when he never did. Two things, however, lead me in another direction.

(1) Bryan has been so absolutely insistent that this thing exists that I tend to think that he might be onto something.

(2) I sort of remember it, too.

We could both be delusional, but I tend to doubt it. I can find no evidence that this song exists or does not. Can anyone help out?

3. No, that's "Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth"
We're looking for/to disprove existence of "Do You Hear What I Hear?"

4. Again, wrong song.
He insists they did a second song, "Do You Hear What I Hear?"

Everyone knows and loves "Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth"

10. I remember the special live and it was only this combined song..
the album only lists this one credit. If he did another song it was not "aired" on TV.

5. I believe they did it on a Christmas Special on television.
I was never a fan of either of them, but I am sure I saw them do it on teevee.

9. There are tons of 70s tv shows/specials that have never been
released on video of any kind..... I think you are right about this song being a second performance on the special that Drummer Boy-Peace On Earth appeared.

Just an aside, given the drop in DVD sales (as the movie archives are expended) you'd think they might release some of them. Of course the demand would likely be pretty small. I do know there are loyal Sonny & Cher and John Denver fans lobbying for those shows to be released... I'd think given the nostalgia around ole Bing, they would release this one as well. Maybe the OP could contact Bowie's representatives.

8. Thanks for the earworm.
I'd forgotten about that song and it's one that has always annoyed the bejeebus out of me. Now it's going to take a week for it to be gone. Gaaaah.

12. Bing Crosby did a solo version of "Do You Hear What I Hear"...
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 10:30 PM by SidDithers
and maybe did it as a duet with someone else, but I think the only duet he did with Bowie was the "Little Drummer Boy". He had only just met Bowie when they recorded it for his Christmas special, and then ole Bing died of a heart attack about a month after the recording.

I think Bryan may be remembering the solo version.

Cheers.

Sid

14. That appears to be the case
now that I've been able to go look at the special myself. Thank you (and thanks everyone) for solving this puzzle.
