I've been surfing all day and have read threats of the west seperating, accusations of illegal politics (Yeah, cause the dozens of Lawyers working for the Libs and NDP missed something that Ed from Medicine Hat picked up on) and my favourite is accusations of treason!

Of course when the Cons tried this in 2004 it wasn't treason! Don't let ANY conservative forget that the cons tried this in 2004! What a comedic day. Cons are such babies when they lose.

1. Yeah... there were some letters in my local paper today...
... with the same conservative "outrage"... calling it a coup, unconstitutional and treason.

The letter writers have zero, I mean ZERO, knowledge of what they write about. It in no way is a "coup". It is 100% constitutional, and in no way is it treason.

In a the British parliamentary system, coalition governments are perfectly constitutional. For example, Canadians don't really vote for a government or a Prime minister, they vote for a member of parliament in their particular riding. That's it! Harper's conservatives don't have a majority of the seats in the House. The other three parties combined have more. It's that simple.

The Governor General (the Queen's rep) can do 2 things if the Harper government falls:

1) call (another election)

2) or ask the opposition to form a government.

Step 2 rarely happens, because it's usually in the best interest of the country to call an election... so (hopefully) a new majority government can be formed. However, in this case, Canada just had an (expensive) election only 6 weeks ago, and also the opposition parties have agreed to form a coalition.

The last time this happened in Canada was with the Borden government about 90 years ago. It was legal then... and it's legal now.

2. Pour the Champagne!
Heaven knows we deserve it on both sides of the border, but both of us need to be wary. There will be penty who did not get their way, and will be happy to trash progress in the name of it.

3. I'm so glad that just as Harper was going to stick it to the nation and
undo union power, get funding away from the opposition parties, etc. he gets hit back by the members of parliament. Things are exactly as they should be. Nobody who has a minority should govern like they have a majority. Harper knows why Canadians have not given him a majority. It is because of his neocon agenda. He should not be surprised Canadians are speaking to him, through their MPS, and telling him to give social engineering up - it is not acceptable to Canadians.

4. "Coup" implies it's unconstitutional and is an increasingly popular RW talking point up here (nt)

5. I'm being a smartass. If anyone actually believes it's a bloodless coup then they're idiots
I live "up here" too.

6. All conservatards are whining, sniveling liars.
Harper and his "Reform" ilk are getting exactly what they deserve right now.
