Dont travel to Venice Italy right now

Published Date: 02 December 2008
VENICE, one of the world's most beautiful and romantic cities, is under water as a result of high tides. This appears to be the worst flooding for 20 years, though thankfully not as serious as the catastrophic inundation of 1966, which almost destroyed the fabric of the city. Nevertheless, most of the historic centre, including St Mark's Square, has been drowned. The mayor, Massimo Cacciari, has advised tourists to "think again" about coming to Venice in the near future.

2. Wow, that's bad
I know it floods annually, but still. Hard to see the place I was standing in June covered in water like that.

3. The worst part about flooding in Venice is...
that the canels are also the sewers... and when the water level rises so does the you know what.

14. So it's a Republican kind of flood.
Some rising tides raise all boats. Others bring the crap straight to your doorstep.

4. When you melt those ice caps
the water has to go someplace. And what of the Polar Bears, they'll need those Gondolas pretty soon.

5. I was actually close to going to Italy this winter
As a trip with some friends, and Venice was going to be one of the stops. Good choice we decided not to go anywhere instead.

10. The state is called Bayern. The company, which produces what is...
commonly called aspirin is Bayer.

That company is located in Leverkusen, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia.

11. I would vote for never travel to Venice
It's dirty, smelly, and expensive, flooded or not.

The rest of Italy is great, though.

13. Venice is one of the European cities I have yet to visit, but it's on my list.....
.... however I keep hearing negative reviews from a majority of people who've visited. All agree that it's astoundingly beautiful, but that it's a horrific tourist trap full of scam after scam.
