Birmingham Mayor Arrested for Corruption

Remember Larry Langford, the mayor of Birmingham, Alabama, who held that public "sackcloth and ashes" prayer meeting to solve the problems in his city? He's been arrested by the FBI on 101 counts of corruption for taking bribes and kickbacks to funnel city money to his pals.

Over an almost five-year period, Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford "corruptly solicited, accepted and agreed to accept money, cash and checks" totaling nearly $250,000 in return for funneling millions of county taxpayer dollars to two political allies, prosecutors allege in a 101-count federal indictment unsealed today.

The indictment charges Langford, along with friends Bill Blount and Al LaPierre, with conspiracy, bribery, fraud, money laundering and filing false tax returns.

but he's a Democrat. Unfortunately, sanctimonious dumbasses aren't limited to the Repubs as this guy proves -- he's been "criticized for the degree to which his Christian faith informs his political agenda. He holds Bible studies for municipal workers at City Hall each week...."
