Police Tie Indian(Home Grown) Suspect to Mumbai Attack

MUMBAI, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- An Indian national arrested months before the Mumbai terrorist attacks may have been involved in the planning of the deadly assaults, police allege.

The Daily Telegraph in Britain said Friday that police claim Faheem Ansari was allegedly in possession of maps of some of the terror attack targets when he was arrested in February.

Police allege Ansari had floor plans for Mumbai's main railway terminal and the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, along with sketches of other tourist sites.

Those two sites, along with three other Mumbai locations, were targeted by terrorists last week in violent attacks. The assaults left 171 people dead, The Daily Telegraph said.

The Indian government has accused Pakistan of helping orchestrate the Mumbai attacks, including alleging Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence helped train the gunmen behind the deadly assaults, the newspaper said.

Several top Indian officials have resigned since the attacks as investigators attempt to determine the exact details surrounding the terrorist acts.
