On top of the $180,000 for clothes, add $110,00 for hair and makeup
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/12/04/mccain-campaign-spent-110000-on-palin-stylists/

Gov. Sarah Palin’s traveling makeup artist was paid $68,400 and her hair stylist received more than $42,000 for roughly two months of work, according to a new campaign finance report filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Ms. Palin’s makeup artist, Amy Strozzi — who was nominated for an Emmy award for her cosmetics work on the television show “So You Think You Can Dance?” — was paid $32,400 by Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign between Oct. 16 and Nov. 24, the period covered by the most recent reports filed with the commission.

This amount came on top of the $36,000 she had already been paid in previous reports, dating back to September.

In addition, Ms. Palin’s traveling hair stylist, Angela Lew, was paid a total of $42,225, with $23,400 coming during the period covered by the latest reports to the commission, which were due at midnight on Thursday.

(end snip)

The article says the report, which was due yesterday, was still not available by late evening. Wonder if the hair and makeup people are still with her. I haven't noticed a real change, but I haven't paid much attention either.

2. Man.
This was one high-maintenance woman. She even had her own pit crew.

In the end, she threw a rod, spun out in her own oil and was left smoking on the side of the track.

4. If you don't think Barack Obama spent a similar amount on makeup...
...you're fooling yourself. Pro makeup artists (and everyone uses them) get paid about 6-800 per day. Yes, there is a union.

7. If he did he paid for himself as was seen in the public campaign disclosures

What a dumb ass statement. The DNC released the records on Obama that clearly
stated he didn't.

10. I believe you're thinking of clothing, not makeup.
Quit calling me a Republican. I'm pointing this out because I work in the film/TV industry and know a lot of professional makeup artists, what the rates are etc. This sort of accusation is sad an pathetic.

16. No, I didn't. Your link is irrelevant
So it was covered before, that doesn't invalidate my point that professional services in this area are expensive and that everyone uses them. As for her clothing purchases, I've had nothing to say about that, as I think she did in fact freeload on the GOP and should have bought and worn her own clothing.

8. I think everyone gets help on hair/makeup/style during the campaign, and yes, it's $$$.

However, this woman was only onstage for what...nine weeks? How could she possibly need this much maintenance for such a short period of time?

12. Here's the (rough) math
9 weeks = 60 days (leave out a few where she was hiding from media)

which is heading towards $2000 per day - but the base pay for a union professional is somewhere in the $700 range, then you pay rental fee for their kit, overtime, travel bonus (for making them be away from home), per diem...it really adds up.

You need a separate makeup artist and hair person if your contract exceeds a certain length of time/budget; the guild member gets fined if they offer to do both jobs (eg if the makeup artist starts doing hair, even as a last-minute helpout, they're undermining the hairdresser and are subject to a fine by their guild).

13. Forgot to mention that these are base rates
If you have a reputation and are thus able to charge more, the guild doesn't object. I'd say the person concerned was getting maybe 30-40% over base. I'm too lazy to go digging up exact rate sheets and retyping them right now. It could also have come from overtime. In the film business a normal day is 12 hours, rather than 8. Then you have overtime, double overtime, and Golden time (after 16 hours per day, you get paid your day rate PER HOUR).

6. "Wonder if the hair and makeup people are still with her."
"I haven't noticed a real change, but I haven't paid much attention either."

Go back and watch tape of her after she returned to Alaska. Her interviews. That turkey murder. Her welcome back in her office by her staff .......

Her hair is a lot thinner and mousy compared to when she was 'on the trail'. Her makeup seems to be more garish and low rent looking.
