Why is congress so mad at the big three?
They did just what congress and business wanted.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2002-12-18-suv-tax-break_x.htm

From USA today 2002

At the same time the tax code sanctions $30,000 write-offs for SUVs, prospective purchasers of a fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles qualify for a relatively small $4,000 tax credit.

A deal to extend similar tax credits to other environmentally friendly vehicles remains stalled in Congress.

It's all legal, and accountants and auto dealers are beginning to catch on.

2. There is an underlying motive here and its not to help anyone
on the :puke:s side that is. the :puke:s want to get rid of the new deal and are going full force in doing that. Thats what I see anyway.

3. Ha! Which explains the Big3's arrogant attitude the first time they came before Congress
Before this, the Big3 said jump and Congress was in the air passing bill after bill favoring the Big 3.

I expect no one could have been more shocked than the Big3 by the current hostile atmosphere.

9. And It Didn't Help That The Other Bailout Was A Complete Failure
I mean, for $700 billion plus one billion worth of congressional bribes, I'd expect the economy to turn around, not break even or avoid an even worse depression than we're already in. And what did we get for that armed robbery? Workers laid off, executives giving themselves bonuses, executives throwing themselves lavish parties, taxpayer bought shares in those companies devaluing, and to top it off, those same financial giants are lending money to the Republican party during the election despite them whining about a "credit freeze."

Fuckers all.

5. Probably Fewer Cash Payments To Congress
If someone has the time to do the research, I'll bet a buck that the financial services industry puts far more cash into the pockets of Congress than does the auto industry.

Follow the money, always.

7. They did what the Bushistas wanted and not what their business sense
should have warned them was deadly. Just another example of how the market takes care of itself...then we, the people, get to bail its victims out. Why are they so mad? Of course because the PUGs want to get rid of the influence of the unions. This is their chance and the dems will fall right in line. I think that the plan to give emergency aid now and wait fot the new Congress and new pres is sensible.

14. And that makes congress not look like a bunch of pushovers?
Congress doesn't want to give money to the big 3 because it makes them look bad.

17. Your chronology was wrong. Your analysis is, as well.
"Congress doesn't want to give money to the big 3 because it makes them look bad."

No, Congress is using the Big3 as a convenient target to divert the anger of taxpayers over the Wall Street bailout. It makes no sense to say that a $25 billion bailout of the Big3 would make Congress "look bad" when they are in the middle of a multi-trillion dollar bailout of the financials.

15. I think they are mad about the bank bailout
And they are catching hell for it. And they are taking it out on the Big 3. If the Big 3 had gotten there first they would have gotten the money.

16. Suckers
Congress was suckered with the financial bailout they backed. It made them look like fools. Now they are stamping their feet and being all righteous about giving out any more money. And I agree they want to bust the unions.
