Remembering John Lennon December 8,1980

My role in society, or any artist's or poet's role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all.



I miss you, John. 27 years later, I still wish I could turn back the clock to the Summer of 1980. I remember everything - sharing our morning coffee, walking in the park together on a beautiful day, and seeing your hand stretched to mine - holding it, reassuring me that I shouldn't worry about anything because our life was good.

I had no idea that life was about to teach me the toughest lesson of all. I learned the intense pain of losing a loved one suddenly, without warning, and without having the time for a final hug and the chance to say, "I love you," for the last time. The pain and shock of that sudden loss is with me every moment of every day. When I touched John's side of our bed on the night of December 8th, 1980, I realized that it was still warm. That moment has haunted me for the past 27 years - and will stay with me forever.

..I was riding a noisy school bus when I was barely able to make out the news that morning from the radio. Ditched school that day. It was so sad.

I suppose the most interesting humans are the complex and initially hypocritical ones, or at least the ones who did the opposite of what they were saying at one point. Most people promoting one thing and doing the opposite behind everybody's backs is card a hypocrite. Happens on every discussion forum... John Lennon is no different just because he made money.

"He tried to overcome it." It's the best anybody can do. I certainly appreciate that.

John's wife, at least in the aforementioned blog URL, doesn't seem as forgiving. Must've hurt her a lot.

I was such a fanatic Doors fan back in the day. Saw them twice in concert. Wonder what Jim would have look like now. Not good, I think.

I remember the day quite well. I was in high school, and had just driven up to my friend's house to pick her up so we could riding around. After hearing this, the plans were changed, didn't feel like I could have a good time after hearing this. RIP dear John.

18. I remember the moment I was told

of his death. I still think the powers that be were behind his death. Lennon was so loved...and he preached LOVE, PEACE, and UNDERSTANDING. This can NOT continue. Plus he actually spoke with clarity and truth about the patriarchy and its treatment of women.

You see, folks like Chenney, Rummy, and all the other neocons and misogynists could not let this man live and spread his word.

I miss him...and his kindness. We don't see that anymore.

20. I'll never forget that night -- I was injured at work

I worked 2nd shift at a plastic bottle factory in Chicago, and had a mishap that resulted in a bruised wrist and 8 stitches in my left hand. The shift supervisor who drove me to the emergency clinic had been watching TV in the waiting room. When I joined him after being patched up, his first words to me were John Lennon is dead.

Needless to say, all feelings of physical discomfort were instantly overwhelmed by a much deeper hurt.
