Off-season Hurricane preparation
The New Orleans Times-Picayune in an editorial supports the idea that all children should be taught to swim. The city council has allocated $100,000 for a youth swimming program.

Great idea, great program, but oh so sad to think that the way to save kids from Hurricanes is to teach them to swim.

It reminds me of a relatively old t-shirt one can find in the French Quarter. FEMA Evacuation Plan: Run Motherfucker Run

1. You can't buy much in the way of levies and pumps for $100K
I think teaching kids to swim is a great idea, hurricanes or not.
