The problem is that their hatred of "liberals" trumps just about anything else. Also, they know they're being fucked, it's just that if they -- as my family does -- listens to Fox, Rush, and O'Reilly from morning to bedtime, they have been convinced that all their problems come from Democrats/liberals/Muslims/minorities.

Both my sister and brother-in-law are working only because their unions saved their asses, as well as their health care. They both hate unions.

You have to wait until there's a pity party going, when they're beating themselves up for choosing this instead of that, and just tell them "It's not you, it's them!" Be prepared to tell them what a minimum wage job bought before inflation in the 70s turned it into a starvation wage and remind them that all other wages are built on top of the minimum. Let them know they've been conned into taking on debt instead of being paid what they're worth.

Then let them chew on it.

Oh, they'll never admit you're right and they're wrong. However, planting that one seed of doubt, giving them that one little glimpse of reality is essential and will pay off later.
