"Boom" cars and the never-ending THUMP.
Is anyone else really, really bothered by these things? It's bad enough to be stuck at a traffic light when there's one next to you - but now (apparently) an owner of one of these nightmare machines has moved into my neighborhood.

For the last HOUR I have heard nothing but the incessant THUMP-THUMP-THUMP (repeating in sets of three with very occasional 30 second pauses). NOTHING drowns it out. Nothing.

I believe it is going to drive me mad.

Is it wrong for me to hope that the owner of this thing rapidly develops a brain bleed and dies?

I really try not to complain about city living, since I choose to live in a city - but OMG. This is awful.

2. We get 'em out in the sticks to my friend and yes they are obnoxious.
This post will probably get kicked to The Lounge but I have to add my 2 pennies before it does.

Sorry bigboom owners.

A turn down once you hit a neighborhood (neighborhood = more than 1 home on the street) would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. :S

7. Ah - yes, it should probably be in the Lounge . . .
I know better. Sorry, mods. I'll blame my moment of stupidity on the OWNER OF THE BLOODY BOOM CAR who is driving me mad.

I may have to move if this keeps up.

20. Not so fast
Those bass notes destroy hearing permanenetly. You can't help the woofer-wounded with hearing aids.

11. What did the owner of this one do?

Bolt on a 45" lawnmower blade under the chassis to manicure golf courses and suburban yards?

I'd sit out on the front yard, watching the driver demolish all those nice "ground effect" fairings and laughing my ass off.

6. Call the cops
Most cities have noise ordinances to keep neighbors from going bonkers and attacking rolling boom boxes with sledge hammers.

Try the cops first, anyway.

Chances are this moron just got the speakers put into his car and the novelty of sitting in the car and blasting it will soon fade and he'll spread the enjoyment with the rest of the city.

Well, until somebody shoots him.

9. Unfortunately, this is Las Vegas.
The cops don't respond until blood has been spilled.

I hope you're right, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the same moron who drives through the neighborhood five or six times a week . . . only now he's decided it's a peachy place to live.

sigh.

13. Just light them up a bit :)

That should work.. and really being in Vegas I doubt much can be done.. And most dont exceed the 120db or whatever it is that a car can emit... Its lame I know but what you gonna do? Get a RPG and end it yourself? Its not like there is a whole lot of options here sadly..

Just ignore it is what I do..

16. Normally I'm not one to call the cops..
But an hour of boom boom is a bit much.

If you live in the city there is almost certainly a noise ordnance.

17. When we were kids, my ex and I had a geo metro
It had a billion watts!! The main amp was the size of a briefcase. And that thing BOOMED! The only problem is we shook the car to death! It started rattling after a couple of months to the point where the music sounded like shit. It got stolen about 6 months after we got it.

.. what does that tell you about the mentality of a person who can sit inside an audio assault and think it's 'cool". They will be deaf within a year... true morons if ever...

21. An Update!
Thank you all for your suggestions, support (and silliness - it helps). :)

Peace has returned to the street - for now. The owner of the rolling auditory insult has finally turned the damn thing off, or gone away, or something. I'm sure it will be back.

I'm hopeful that he and the family of morons who live 3 houses down (five pickups with giant off-road tires and heavy struts, two panel vans, one car on blocks, and at least half a dozen motor-scooters, mini-bikes, and ATV's that they regularly buzz up and down the street for freaking HOURS . . .) will eventually do each other in . . .

I've discovered that Las Vegas does indeed have a noise ordinance and this idjit is violating it. I've also discovered that Clark County has 10 code enforcement officers and that the maximum fine the idjit would have to pay is $250. No other punishment . . . and that would be after one of those 10 code enforcement officers gets to my complaint in a queue which is undoubtedly many, many pages long.

sigh. I could have done without that particular bit of enlightenment.
