Probably just enough to get them through December and January and let Obama and the next congress tackle the problem.

1. I think that's his only option
I mean, he was willing to brook this bailout, probably to save his "legacy", so if that's still his aim, then he's got to take some kind of action.

3. If he did that it would only be the second time I agreed with him.
The first being when he butted heads with the racist wing of the party over immigration reform.

6. He's also been pretty good to Africa
Yeah, he's injected ideology into it re. birth control, but he has done more for Africa than any president before him. At least that's what my friend who works for an Africa-related non-profit said, and she's not particularly partisan one way or the other. I've been fiercely critical for 8 years but I'll give credit where credit is due.

7. I'd forgotten about that. Indeed, he actually has a decent favorability rating in Africa.
I saw that in Botswana he had something like an 80% favorable rating.

5. I hope you are right
I don't have much faith in Bush, but I can't imagine he wants his last act in office to be letting GM fail.

11. The key is Cerberus -- will Bush screw them?
It is headed up by Bush's former Secretary of the Treasury.

"John W. Snow, the 73rd Secretary of the Treasury of the United States of America, has been appointed Chairman of Cerberus Capital Management, L.P. Prior to becoming Secretary of the Treasury in February 2003, Secretary Snow was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CSX Corporation."

a monstrous watchdog with three (or in some accounts fifty) heads that guarded the entrance to Hades.

9. I just can't see him wanting to have either or both of them go down in the last
month in office. Just give them enough to stay afloat and make the handoff.
