Colin Powell Slams Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh: "Nothing Wrong With My Value System"

HuffPost/ThinkProgess.com | December 11, 2008 05:15 PM

=============================================================================================

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell took aim at Sarah Palin and the Republican party's emphasis on small-town values during an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakharia that will air this Sunday.

Powell also says that we should rethink its "don't ask, don't tell" policy on homosexuals in the military. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/12/11/powell-gop-polarization-backfired-in-election/">And he tells Republicans that they should stop listening to Rush Limbaugh:

"Can we continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh?" Powell asked. "Is this really the kind of party that we want to be when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather than our better instincts?"

As noted by http://thinkprogress.org/2008/12/11/powell-values/">Think Progress, Powell says:

"Gov. Palin, to some extent, pushed the party more to the right, and I think she had something of a polarizing effect when she talked about how small town values are good. Well, most of us don't live in small towns. And I was raised in the South Bronx, and there's nothing wrong with my value system from the South Bronx.

"And when they came to Virginia and said the southern part of Virginia is good and the northern part of Virginia is bad. The only problem with that is there are more votes in the northern part of Virginia than there are in the southern part of Virginia, so that doesn't work."

- If they weren't such deserving bastards, one could almost -- almost I said, -- have sympathy for the fix the Repukes are in right now. Torn with the reality they now see most clearly, that in order to survive they must risk alienating themselves from their religious kooks and racists. Which also happens to be "their very core."

Without them, they are lost. With them, they are lost.

And the only answer they've come up with to this point, http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?article=the_fundamentalist_111908">is to do more of the same thing that got them where they are now.

Only harder.

5. I hadn't seen the Palin cartoon before
with her gabbing away while behind her, the Republican elephant gets stuffed in the decapitator. But it's excellent and true!

6. The republican party is dying. They are just twitching to stay alive.
Soon the life blood of their party will drain away.

9. They are indeed.
- And because of it, I've learned something about myself I hadn't known before. I'm all for torture and pain when its the Republican party suffering.

Does that make me a bad person???

10. Nahhhh....
...he's a soldier. I think he'd fall on his sword first.

Although if Palin and the rest of those religious kooks and racists in his party do take it over he might have to jump somewhere. How bout the Constitution Party with Alan Keyes???

- Now there's a dream ticket in 2012!

11. I don't agree. I think his recent criticisms of the repukes is his way
of paving the way changing parties. Mainly because it will be a grand eff you to bushco. Think about it.
