one of the largest dealers has an action running: buy one middle class car (eg Toyota Avensis) at catalogue price, and you get a second small one (eg Ford Kia) for free. They announce it themselves as "selling off stock due to the crisis".

Site in dutch: http://www.cardoen.be/ Check the list of cars they have the offer for.

I'm not buying, even though we need two...

1. Not totally "free" - you have to pay all dealer's costs and taxes, etc....
which still adds up to about 5 grand per vehicle depending on the type...

and, this is only for the "best" credit rated customers...

gotta read the fine print...

2. Hmm...I'm not seeing it in fine print on the site
and people talking about it don't mention that either.
But I gues it could be in there. You probably have seen similar offers in the US?

Thanks for the warning though.

total side note: bought a mattress couple months back. I start reading the fine print, find out if I want their 10 year warranty, it has to be stated on the front of the order sheet by the sales clerk (which it wasn't). Suspicion aroused, I read the whole damn fine print - and they have:

"After a customer has paid an advance, the SELLER shall be accountable to pay the remainder"

My father-in-law thought I should take them up on that, but I wanted my wife to sleep better soon, so I didn't :-)

3. Know of a couple people personally here who just tried to do that....
Granted, the "price" for the car is "free" - but you still have to pay all the other charges...

It would be great for a business that needs cars to expand - but the REPUKE DEPRESSION and resulting lack of credit for almost ANYBODY is like offering a Rolls to a homeless poor person for ten grand - great deal but the poor person still doesn't have the money...
