2. My position is scheduled to disappear at the end of February
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 12:39 PM by sorcrow
My soon to be former company is laying off about 60 total out of 400 in the US. About 25 will be gone by the end of next week. The others including me will be gone sometime during the Q1 2009 as products are released and/or transferred to other locations.
(on edit: I just found out this morning.)

Working in the UK for a US company. My whole (small) department is gone, as is about 25% of the UK workforce.

6. I am taking a cut in hours January first
Fortunately I work for an awesome progressive boss. When business picks back up so will our hours. He didn't want to have to let either of us go.

I'll maybe get a part time job to cover the difference until the economy stabilizes.

8. We're being encouraged to take lots of leave without pay to prevent more layoffs.
My job is not in trouble (yet) but after the dust settles it's gonna be a lot different from what I signed up for.

Those of us workers left in positions are going to see our hours change, a lot more shift work and just a lot more work for no more pay.

At this point, I'm just bloody grateful to clear a paycheck!!!

28. I think it has barely begun. Orgs that get governmental grants will feel a big hit in 2009.
This is going to be a big bad echo.

13. part time job hours cut from 25-8 per week
right now they are at 18 per week but after first of year i will be lucky to get 8-10 per week. they won't lay me off because i work in small hotel and they will keep me on fri & sat nights only. enough just to not qualify for unemployment.

and not sure if they won't just lay us off starting in feb when its dead slow.

Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 01:01 PM by supernova
First of October this last time.

Yeah, it stinks. :banghead:

I'm a contract worker, which was the original form of outsourcing.

I desperately want to get into something else more stable, obviously.

16. Reductions in my department.
I narrowly escaped being laid off, but I was due for a promotion--from adjunct to permanent faculty-- this spring that now won't happen.

21. While I may not be laid off,
there are severe cuts beginning in January, as well as "furlough" days, when we won't get paid, but will have to have basic services staffed and we "get" to work at the office to catch up on other stuff.
