CHICAGO (CNN) – President-elect Barack Obama will not be moving his family across the street from the White House early, despite his request to do so. Blair House, which incoming presidents traditionally occupy 5 days before inauguration day on January 15, is apparently booked in the early part of January.

An Obama transition spokesperson says the family initially "explored the idea" of moving into Blair House early so that daughters Sasha and Malia could start school on schedule. But the family was told there were previously-scheduled events and guests that could not be displaced.

The important thing is that the location be a place that can be reasonably protected by the Secret Service.

The Obamas seem like the last people who act like royalty. All they did was inquire about accommodations so their kids could start school on time. I'm sure they'll find another place to stay and be happy with the location for convenience and security issues.

And if Blair House is the best location for security reasons, then the people will offer to change their plans. Sounds like it's reasonable for us the expect the safest place for the incoming First Family.

It's their appointed staff that schedules these things. You'd think Steppford wife Laura would have instructed the staff to hold any booking from the first of the year because there's a good chance the Obama's might want to get their kids in school after the Christmas break. After all she's a mother and should have anticipated this.
