What Car Make Model Do you/Did you (as a kid, maybe) Dream about?
Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 05:19 PM by Mike 03
I know some of these threads might be getting silly, and perhaps belong in the lounge, but this car talk has evoked a lot of memories.

I remember when I was around thirteen years old, all I could think about was getting a black Trans Am just like Burt Reynolds drove in "Smokey in the Bandit." I remember telling my dad, in all my innocence and naivete, "If I ever get rich, I'm going to get a black Trans Am."

If I were to go car collecting, I would try to find these two:

1977 black Trans Am with T-tops.
1976 bright yellow AMC Pacer

And I guess my fantasy car is to own a black Porsche, one of the new sleek models (think "Scarface") not one of those unwieldy, bulky classics.

I always dreamed about owning a Shelby Cobra/Mustang. I presently own the same car I've had for 11 years, a 1997 3.8L, V-6, Mustang.

5. first car I got was what I wanted
72 demon tricked out edition

340 magnum,6 pack carbs,roller rockers,muncy trans,365 gear,balanced.

That car was nuts. How I talked my Dad into loaning me the money to buy that still baffles me.

For those familiar with SW Virginia or interstate 77 I took that car through East River Mountain tunnel one night with some friends about half high and ran it hard.It registered 150 and I broke the speedometer.Went in at about 120 and never let off till we exited. For those not familiar with East River Mountain tunnel it's about a mile and a quarter long....if you go in hot and run it hard with a fast car you can get some amazing speed in that tunnel

51. Heh. 442, you say?
Never owned one, but my father actually managed to snag one for a few months as his company car.

We used it to take a long car trip, and I remember awakening from a nap and asking my Dad: "um, aren't you going 100 mph?"

He responded with something like "Oh, was I going that fast? Huh. Better slow down a bit..."

26. Trouble with the SL: next year's is always better
Mercedes has suffered from reliability problems in the last few years because they're a little too leading-edge these days.

But every few years a new SL comes out and kudos to Mercedes for making it a little faster and a little sexier than the last. I do agree that some of the older, smaller SL's of the past have a charm and style you just can't beat today.

Back in the 80's it was the sh*t. (It's still the sh*t today!) So much awesome technology and speed. Bill Gates had one on hold in Seattle Customs for like 13 years.

In the last decade or so, I dream of prancing horses and raging bulls - from Maranello to Sant'Agata.

Nobody makes dream cars like the Italians. Period.

The W2 was so fantastic to me because at the time, America was really building just shit for performers. Vector and De Thomaso were the only producers using American muscle to power their supercars.

Of course, now that model name is forever tarnished for me. I ended up with a 1966 Buick Skylark. At that point, I had never driven a truck. Once I drove a truck I didn't lust after sports or muscle cars anymore.

When I finally got a chance to buy a new vehicle my choice was a GMC Suburban - a giant station wagon on a truck chassis!

After I drove a Porsche, I was in awe.

My dream car in reality - a 1992 black Volvo 740 sedan... man I loved that car. Great balance of form and function... a luxury tank. <g>. Drove like a truck, built like a tank and proved it when we met a tree one day at about 45 mph. Still miss that car.

A 427 Cobra and a Lancia Zargo coupe. I could never afford a Cobra but could have get a Lancia Zargo coupe when I was in college for $1800 but didn't have the money. 30 years later I saw one in Robb's Report for $250,000. Good thing I couldn't afford it at the time because I would probably have sold it for $1500 and then felt real bad when I saw what it went to.
