Bloomberg Radio and TV (for that matter) is a slightly right of center media source focused entirely on business news, the economy, and Wall Street.
The two huge stories today were the Republican refusal to assist the Big Three and (even moreso, in a way) the Bernard L. Madoff scandal.
It was a mix of good and bad coverage. I would estimate that three quarters of the interviews today regarding the automakers was positive and pointed out that it was absolute madness to attempt to blame the workers or the union for the failure of these companies. And the consensus was that there was not choice but to assist them in some way or another.
The only asshole I heard was some "expert" from the Kato Institute (or is it Cato Institute) who did manage to throw it all in the laps of the workers and their legacy and pension costs.
But to Bloomberg's credit, they covered, live, both the exemplary news conference by Ron Gettelfinger and the fairly disastrous news conference by Corker.
Parenthetically, I have to say, I am really growing to like Gettelfinger. He is extremely on the ball, brutally honest, humble but totally devastated the Repuke minority today. The guy is extremely, extremely bright and media savvy.
Gettelfinger made the best, most passionate and sincere case for the union I have ever heard, and you would have to have a heart of stone to have heard him and come away from that news conference blaming the workers.
My impression is that the Repukes who sabotaged this bill are going to regret it and go down in history as true villains and complete hypocrits.
I think this is going to turn out okay in the long run.
