Indianapolis Police Officer in Trouble Over "Impeach Obama" Sticker
Edited on Sat Dec-13-08 08:25 AM by soonerhoosier
Let's hope he's in a LOT of trouble.

Here's the story: http://www.wthr.com/Global/story.asp?S=9512960

There's a video.

Indianapolis - Sticker shock lands an Indianapolis police officer in trouble. The officer had an "Impeach Obama" bumper sticker on his laptop inside his police car.

Through the glare of the window shield, it's not that hard to see the political message in black letters on a yellow background. It's supposed to attract attention, and it did.

In the front seat of all Indianapolis Metro Police cars are laptops, owned by the city and operated by the city and designed for police business. As a general rule the laptops are not supposed to be used for any other reason.

"My first impression was it represented the entire department," said Sarah Harrison, Indianapolis.

"You can't have something like that. Even though he has first amendment rights, it is a city owned vehicle and it is not going to be tolerated by the chief, by the major and he will face some disciplinary action," said Lt. Jeff Duhamell.

Good for Sarah Harrison for photographing it and reporting him.

This officer works in downtown Indy, which has a large African-American population.

What does he want to impeach Obama for? Being black?

He should be fired.

3. Cops here are not allowed to have bumper stickers or yard signs
It might even be a law but I am not sure.

8. You mean on personally owned/private property?
I can't possibly see how that would be Constitutionally allowable either by department policy or by written law.

9. I realize it is probably a violation of the first amendment
But it is the rule. Has been for as long as I can remember. It's to prevent corruption in the police dept.

4. No one with a Pro-Obama sticker on their car would expect a reasonable expectation of fair treatment
From this asshole, whether he defaces city property or not.

If he's not fired for unfair bias, I hope that people who come into negative contact with them hire a good lawyer.

7. You're right.
I'll bet this sticker was intended (as much as anything) to add insult to injury for African Americans he brings back to the squad cdar for tickets or arrests.
I also hope that the public defenders will take note of this and, where appropriate, raise doubt among judges & juries in cases where this guy is the arresting officer.

6. Judgement
the poor judgement to put a political sticker of any kind on city equipment is proof by itself this person is unfit for police duty. Put his carcass behind a desk someplace where he can't hurt anyone, or fire him outright. But someone with that kind of low cognitive ability should not be issued a weapon.
