Us Iowans need you to be warm for the bowl game. Now that you're Blue again, I'll be happy to spend my $$ in the Sunshine State. Tampa for New Years Day in the Outback Bowl.

2. Yup...here in the Twin Cities of MN
we're at 38 degrees, but that's just about to change, and change fast. Snow's melting, and the streets are wet from the rain that's been falling. In a couple of hours, the temp's going to drop way down and freeze all that water. After that, the snow's going to start coming down. We'll only get a couple of inches here, but north of us, they're expecting up to a foot.

Now, for those who don't live in areas like this, rain, followed by real cold and snow, makes for streets and highways that are slick as fish guts. Tomorrow's commute will be a doozy, I have no doubt.

17. and since neither city bothered to plow properly
this freezing icy crap will make solid frozen mounds that the plows won't be able to remove (they'll slide over the mound tops)and we'll deal with the mess until March.

They should have declared snow emergencies last week and done the job right.

Grrrrrrrr.

30. I agree.
They did plow our street, but they didn't get it down to the pavement, so there was about 1" of snow left, which is now slush. It will freeze later and there you have it.

I just got back from a trip to Walgreens. The slush on the road is very slick. The main roads are clear, but are wet enough to wash off what salt is there. When the temps take a dump, it's gonna be black ice everywhere, with a layer of snow on top. I think I'm cancelling my plans for the next couple of days.

10. Yikes, just popped my head outside
here in Missouri, just south of KC, and the temperature has plummeted. Earlier it was in the 60's. The wind has suddenly picked up and it's in the mid 20's and COLD out there. They predicted the front would come through later today, but it looks like it is several hours early. Oh goody.

19. We expect -2 tonight.
After an unusually warm autumn that broke several records for high temperatures, we've gone from spring-like weather to winter in one day. It started snowing Friday night. It's snowed through the weekend. We're forecast for -4 on Monday, and then warming up to lows in positive single digits for the rest of the week.

I was still frantically moving horses and setting up water heaters for horse, sheep, and chicken waterers yesterday, while it was snowing.

I'm almost relieved to see winter finally arrive, even though my electric bill will spike. The heaters in the tackroom, pumphouse, and stock waterers make winter expensive.

Still, it was uncomfortably eerie the last couple of months. I kept thinking that I was back in southern california. I even had a couple of nightmares about showing up to my old job down south, lol.

and we're expecting rain and snow showers over the next week in the valley.

Santa Fe Ski Basin opened yesterday, so the ski operators finally have something to smile about. It's been a warm fall and they're a month late.

Here on beautiful Grand Traverse Bay it's warm and melty. Wait till it all freezes tonight. That should be interesting.

My heart really goes out to the homeless and our furry friends who are left outside year 'round during these harsh months. I am always relieved when we get a relatively warm day (regardless of snowfall). I know it makes life much easier for the aforementioned souls without shelter.

Stay warm friend!

It was 56 at 7AM and is now 24. Snow and sleet coming and a low of -6 possible tonight, winds are gusting now up to 40 mph.

It is winter for certain now. Horses in the barn and the work begins. I hate all the pre-winter stuff, once it is finally here I am fine and boy did it get here today!

Stay warm and safe!

45. Here in the NE corner of Iowa, we had
44 degrees earlier. In just the last hour the winds have REALLY picked up (they were calm earlier) and the temp is down to about 30 now and dropping like a rock. Losing a degree every few minutes!

Not looking forward to the arctic blast tonight/tomorrow. Tomorrow's high.... 5, with wind chills to -25. Low Monday night down to -9. Tuesday, high of 12 with a few inches of snow likely.

Ahhh, winter. I've seen much worse temps than these, but it's the drastic change from the highs yesterday and today and then the nasty winds that make it really miserable. I hope it gets it out of its system this week so we can have some quiet weather over Christmas.
