My Family Started A New Christmas Tradition - The George W. Bush Christmas........
Because Bush has destroyed the economy - among other things - and half my family is either laid off, out of a job completely or on leave from work for a month - we decided that we wouldn't go out before Christmas and purchase any gift items. Instead we will go to church in the a.m. on Christmas day and have a nice dinner at home watching Christmas movies and overall just enjoy each others company.

After Christmas - we intend to go out and take advantage of all the post Christmas sales - where the retailers will be discounting big just to get rid of their inventories. Then we will again meet and exchange gifts. We limited our gift purchases to $25 and basically did a grab bag where we all only have to buy one gift. Bottom line with 50 - 60 - 70 percent discounts - for $25 you can get a real nice gift.

We are planning on doing this from now on and not get caught up in the Black Friday buying frenzy and pre-Christmas rush. We will avoid the crowds, not be taken advantage of by buying products that are overpriced and not be forced by guilt into spending monies on a retailer's holiday.

It's interesting to note that already retailers are heavily discounting merchandise before Christmas and the shelves are full of stock. We're hoping that retailers don't get wise to this trend to postpone Christmas until after - and artificially keep prices high after the holiday. If we have to - we'll push this out even farther.

And you retailers out there - don't blame us - put the blame where it belongs - on George W. Bush and the Repugs that got us here.

1. Interesting idea
I do know of families that don't buy presents - they donate money to the charity that each family member chooses.

I think the main thing is the tradition - what makes people happy?

I also think more and more people are realizing that things don't necessarily make them happy, being with family does.

I do think you will all have a good time seeing what $25 will get you after the holidays. Happy shopping! :hi:
