I'm going to enjoy breakfast with my husband and my token teenage daughter, with the blinds closed. We're snug in our Eddie Bauer sweaters as the snow falls outside of our Aspen winter home. 12. I have the snow.

I'm about to go out to haul more wood close to the house. I've got about 8 inches, and am expecting another 12" by Monday.

The fire (only heat source) is going, it's 19 degrees, the plumbing is barely working, the horses' feet are icing up, I've hauled some hot water out to the chickens, since the power to their shed (and water heaters) is out, and I have enough food to see me through for several days.

No tree, no lights, and my family drew names this year so that we each purchased only one gift, plus one for the only child, my grandson.

With a stringent $$ limit on that gift.
