I'm deleting.

I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Not my intention. Sorry to any and all this post offended.

1. You support someone carrying a gun and not using it in self-defense?
What's the point in carrying the gun?

6. So then our troops are in Iraq for self-defense?
Again, as I indicated in the post, defense of the defenseless in an IMMEDIATE circumstance is no doubt often necessary but also evil. But I'm not sure what this has to do with self-defense.

If you wish to argue that my vision of the armed forces is counter-intuitive to the existence of the armed forces, then I'd agree. But this would probably go back to the whole "support" thingy.

8. Our troops always have the right to self defense
whether they are in Iraq, walking the DMZ in Korea, or manning a gate in the states. My question was simple, you said you supported someone carrying a weapon, but not using it. What is the point?

2. Typical right winger, zero response to what you said, insults
or snide remarks that skirt the issue.

5. Have you ever read the DU rules?
You just broke 'em... BIG TIME.

Do not post broad-brush smears against US service people. Do not blame the troops for the mistakes of their officers or their Commander-in-Chief. Show the appropriate level of respect to those individuals who have put their own lives on the line to defend this country.

And uh really.... what was the purpose of this thread? I mean..aside from breaking some rules?

7. I'm sorry if I've smeared anyone.
I don't know that I've smeared anyone. I believe the war is unjust, illegal, and evil. I own my own responsibility for its existence; it's not like I've withheld my taxes as a conscientious objector. I've bought goods made in China and Indonesia. Again, I am guilty.

I believe in an existential world where one makes existential choices. One can choose to follow commands, superiors, consciences, etc.

One of the points of my post was that "libs" often get painted with this "support the government" label. But I find that this is untrue. I find myself completely non-supportive of my government (and not just the murderous bushies). I was just attempting to create a misconception by my acquaintance and by many people on the right. I've run into this mindset before (and they're usually shocked by some of my positions). I've been called a commie many times (though I'm really not a commie).

11. Smeared ain't the word...
I cannot even come up with better word for it without breaking a rule.

Let's just say that YOU have just told me and countless of others here on DU that you do not support the families that are serving over there.

Tell you what, My brother and my nephew and one of my best friends just said FUCK YOU VERY MUCH!

Hope that clears up your fucking "smear".

17. DUH?
Don't we all wish they would COME HOME?

Do you have any clue how the military works?

Ya think they can just lay down their weapons over in Bagdhad and just say "fuck it?"

Have no way to get home or support their families, go through military tribunals?

Do you have ANY clue?

19. Uhhhh, yes, trust me, I know EXACTLY how conscientious objector status works.
I don't know how men and women who oppose the war can continue to kill and/or support said killings. If they know it's wrong to be there, then they ought to leave.

I don't know how someone could support and/or participate in good conscience in said killings.

So where does that leave the troops?

This was the point of my OP, and I deleted it because it was so hurtful to you and others. But NOW you want to talk about it after I've deleted it out of respect for your feelings?

This is some sort of weird passive aggressiveness.

And a whole list of prayers you could say for our troops.

18. I'm seriously something.
Maybe a jerk.

But I'm serious about my position. Sorry it offends you so much. It really was the Christian position until Augustine and his "just-war" (or is that just war; or, ehhhh, it's just war) theory of the late 4th century.

I don't know of too many Buddhists who ascribe to just war theory.
