And if it wasn't for this sense of decency if someone who I knew was a Republican stopped looking for help I'd be telling him or her to keep driving.

1. Where in Iowa?
Edited on Sat Dec-20-08 09:07 PM by mycritters2
I'm supposed to drive to Eagle next weekend. I'm keeping an eye on the weather. I remember winters like this!!

Be careful and stay safe!

6. Well, I have to drive through east central to get to north central.
Maybe it'll improve in a week.

Thanks! Take care of yourself! :hi:

7. A few miles from Dubuque - which is on the eastern border.

15. I sometimes go that way, up 61 to 20. But this time of year, I've hit some bad fog
around Dubuque, so I more often go 80 to 380 to 20. Either way, it looks like one would hit bad weather if traveling this weekend. Hope things improve!

I'm thinking of you all! :hi:

3. I thought surely winter 08-09 in Iowa would be an easy one.
We couldn't have two really rotten winters in a row--but no such luck. Nasty winds out there blowing the snow around. Just talked to a friend in Arizona: daytime temps averaging 62. I'm making hot chocolate and snuggling in with my dog.

9. Isn't this wind awful? For awhile, it was blowing chunks of ice off the trees.
Each time they hit the deck or roof, it sounded like a war zone. I'm in Southeast Iowa and haven't been able to get out of the house for two days because of the ice. Give me snow, anyday compared to this stuff.

14. I was stuck in the Q.C. the other day because of the ice
At least I was staying at the Isle in Bettendorf so I was able to put the car in the ramp and keep most of the ice off the car. The wind just sounds nasty now.

4. Snow in Iowa can be quite daunting.
Welcome to DU.

Lived in Norwalk and Logan as a child and have family in Southeast Iowa. I remember the snow storms.

Snow is beautiful, but I'm happy to be dreaming of a White Christmas not living one here in L.A.

Don't want to be mean, but just so you know. It's pretty cold here too. It's been in the 40s at night.

Nevertheless, my garden is surviving. I picked a ripe tomato and some lovely Chinese cabbage and chives from my garden this afternoon. My onions are doing wonderfully. And I have a few more tomatoes slowly growing and ripening on my remaining three vines. (Five miles from downtown L.A.)

10. Yeah, it's just lovely and toasty up here in Allamakee county...
Temp is -1 and the wind is howling. Snowed all day. Probably got about another 4 inches or so on top of the 7-8 that we got on Thursday night and now it is blowing around and drifting all over.

Can't wait for the next round to come in on Tuesday. :sarcasm:

I wasn't expecting a repeat of last winter again so soon, but here we are. Joy.

11. Nasty in Minnesota as well
No travel is advised outside the Minneapolis/St Paul metro area (especially as you go west) and the local news reporters seemed to be scratching their heads about why anyone would be out in the metro area as well.

12. Getting Ready in Wisconsin
did a big shop today for Christmas dinner - still more to do.

Will use the "hunker down" time to finish wrapping etc. etc. in hopes that there is at least one more shopping day before Xmas to finish the last - fresh pear, arugula and MORE WINE.

Should be a gala day - hope the family makes it here to enjoy the beef tenderloin,, cognac peppercorn cream sauce, pear and gorgonzola and arugula salad, wild rice with sage and cranberries, , and chocolate rum cake with nuts and ice cream -- and WINE.

My spare $5 bills are diminishing rapidly for the teens who do the rest of what the drive guy cannot reach.

They will have a very Merry Christmas -- and I hope all of DU will as well.
