For the third time this week I've walked into a bookstore, approached the first available floor assistant, and, with and absolutely straight face, asked them;

"Do you have any good books by Anne Coulter?"

In all three cases, the employees broke professional demeanor.

I worked in a Bookstore many years ago, and no matter what I thought of the author being sought, I took the request seriously. Bookstore employees understand that customer service trumps personal views, but even these retail professionals could not control their responses. Two of them, college-age girls, nearly burst out laughing, one older gentleman looked at me like my head was on upside-down and asked me to repeat the question.

Now, I live in a very 'Blue' state, so I would urge caution in other places. But I can say that after I let up the act, many patrons were also entertained.

(I think next time I'll really lay it on.) ;)

1. "GOOD books by Ann Coulter???"
"...You said, do we have any good books by Ann Coulter??" :rofl:

I'm sorry, that question just reminded me of a joke on SCTV once where people were trying to guess the identity of a man who claimed to be "a popular Canadian actor."

"You say you're a popular Canadian actor?"

"Yes, I am."

"So...you're a Canadian actor? And you're popular?"

"Yes."

"Hmm...I have no idea."

2. It's excellent entertainment
-for the social extrovert.

If you are so inclined, give it a try. I hit three out of three, but I won't guarantee results.

The next time I try it I might actually feign offense, put their feet to the fire for a minute or so, then let them of the hook. Hopefully I'll get a crowd.

:smoke:
