Another bankruptcy costs 500 jobs in this small town.
Pilgrim's Pride declared bankruptcy recently, with the processing plant here being the county's largest employer.

Not only will 500 jobs be lost, but cutbacks in the chicken processing will adversely affect the farmers who grow the chickens.

Hundreds of employees will return to work at Pilgrim's Pride in Live Oak after their holiday break, only to be given a permanent break soon after

A company spokesperson says the plant is eliminating about 505 jobs.

2. I'd have expected Pilgrim's Pride to do well in this economy.
Their stuff isn't exactly cheap, but long-term storage prep food sales have been booming for the past few years.

4. A criminal operation
founded by Bo Pilgrim, who as I recall was caught handing out envelopes full of cash on the floor of the Texas House of Representatives. An industrial food processor whose ilk should permanently disappear from our national landscape.

I'm sorry for the employees. They, and we, ought to all be involved in a better food system.
