Poll question: If Warren is allowed to speak at Obama's inaugural ...
Edited on Thu Dec-25-08 08:10 PM by ColbertWatcher
... will it be okay if he uses images from that event to make some purpose-driven profit?

(EDITED TO ADD EXAMPLE)

This is what it might look like.

5. I keep thinking about why this guy wants to do this.
Besides all the attention.

Then it hit me: after reading a post by DUer Amerigo Vespucci http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=4713588&mesg_id=4714287

It just took a while for the idea to gel.

24. Thanks for the link.
I haven't in the past paid much attention to Warren's kind of people. Wish it wasn't being shoved in my face now....

4. The only part of the day's events I'll be riveted to
is Stupid getting on that chopper and going away. That's the part I want to see and that is the part I will rejoice over.

Yes, it's nice we grew up enough to elect a black president. However, he's too conservative for my taste and that's really not what I'll be in the mood to celebrate.

I would hope that some day we grow up enough to respect the spirit of our constitution and leave the god botherers in church.

Until then, I'll just sleep in and tune in late.

6. I'm sure he'll do it in the middle of the night and ...
... not by helicopter.

He'll use one of those underground secret tunnels.

9. Actually, I prefer all cults were dissolved and ...
the evangelicals were convinced to be better citizens instead of mindlessly following another leader (even if I agree with said leader) for generations to come.

That would be sweet.

15. i think it's a similar act like using the 4 antigay gospel acts.
the difference being that barack has system set up where he can 'distance' himself if something turns out too distasteful.

19. Okay, now I'm slightly less confused.
What are the 4 anti-gay gospel acts and unless Obama disinvites the Smilin' Bigot, he is doing something distasteful.

11. In many ways, that's the point
He will gain more from this than Barack will. He can use this honor, of being on this stage, for far longer than Obama can. He will use this picture, of the most important inauguration since Washington, to his own advantage, for as long as he lives. This "gesture" on the part of Obama, will serve progressives for a few weeks. It's a deal to Warren's advantage.

16. How The Fuck Could They Justify NOT Letting Him Exploit It However He Wants?
Obama's exploiting HIM, does he now get to refuse Warren exploiting HIM?

18. "Obama's exploiting HIM" I don't see how this is possible.
Obama was elected president, Warren is a self-appointed leader of a Dominionist cult.

Whether or not Warren is delighted to be used (as I'm sure he is), he's being used.

17. I'm aware of no law that would prevent such twisted self-promotion.
No matter how nauseating and reprehensible, I don't know how the word "allowed" even applies.

... there was some kind of traditional understanding between the two parties.

Kinda like a benefit of the doubt sort of thing.

23. Inviting Warren to the inauguration is like . . .
inviting your ex to Christmas dinner.

"But honey, I thought it'd be a great idea! Mending fences and all!"

"Christmas dinner? Are you fucking out of your mind?"

"Why not? It's the spirit of the season - reconciliation, all that?"

"Christmas dinner? Are you fucking out of your mind?"

"Obviously, I'm not getting through on this . . . ?"

"I'll put him next to your mother - they'll get along SPLENDIDLY."

"Uh . . . maybe I should rethink this . . . "
