I predict that Rick Warren
Edited on Fri Dec-26-08 11:23 AM by marylanddem
will say or do something so inflammatory within the next week that Obama will rescind the invite.
(although calling his critics "Christophobes" should have been enough)
I'm also wondering if, perhaps, Obama - when he spoke at the dipshit's church a few years ago - made some joking invite to Warren, like "if I win the Presidency you can do the invocation at my inauguration" - and now he's stuck with that joke and we're stuck with Warren? Please, oh please, Rev. Rick, say something so dumb even you will be shocked by it.

1. I think he may already be there with his "Christophobes" comment
I just saw it on the Rachel Maddow clip on the front page. Don't know how old the comment was.

3. Because it's saying that those who don't like him
Edited on Fri Dec-26-08 11:18 AM by marylanddem
don't like Jesus - that's my read, anyway -
kind of putting himself up there as equivalent to Jesus, in other words

4. You mean, like this?
Rick Warren's support for Akinola is not an anomaly but appears to be, rather, the rule. As detailed at Talk To Action by Richard Bartholomew (author of the exceptional Bartholomew's Notes On Religion),

The Kampala Monitor reports:

Dr Warren said that homosexuality is not a natural way of life and thus not a human right. "We shall not tolerate this aspect at all," Dr Warren said.

Warren was speaking in support of Ugandan Anglicans who intend to boycott the forthcoming Lambeth Conference, and this harsh rejection of tolerance for gays and lesbians may have serious consequences in a country where homosexuals face harassment and and the threat of imprisonment.

Warren's comment is of a piece with his support for Martin Ssempa, the Ugandan evangelist who has been a keynote speaker at a Warren conference, and who has received US global AIDS prevention funds. As I wrote in August, Ssempa wants to ensure that homosexuality remains illegal and that gays and lesbians are identified in the public mind as sexual abusers. Ssempa calls for media censorship against opposing views and the dismissal of dissenting academics, and last summer he organised a rally with the theme "A Call for Action on Behalf of the Victims of Homosexuality", at which he railed against "molestation and sodomy."

Or maybe this?

You don’t have to dig too deep to find bigoted statements by Rick Warren, the homophobe who is Obama’s new BFF. Just last week in a video interview, Warren compared gay marriage to incest and pedophilia:

RICK WARREN: But the issue to me is, I’m not opposed to that as much as I’m opposed to the redefinition of a 5,000-year definition of marriage. I’m opposed to having a brother and sister be together and call that marriage. I’m opposed to an older guy marrying a child and calling that a marriage. I’m opposed to one guy having multiple wives and calling that marriage.

STEVEN WALDMAN: Do you think, though, that they are equivalent to having gays getting married?

RICK WARREN: Oh I do. …

???

How much worse does it have to get, exactly?

5. He definitely is trending in that direction
Either he makes a completely over the top bigoted remark shocking enough to force his removal from the inauguration, or..

he continues to blurt out these inane "some of my best friends..." statements which are going to isolate him from the knuckle draggers among his flock.

I predict an implosion, but either way his credibility is pretty well screwn.

Perhaps he'll get caught in a men's room with Ted Haggard.

6. I disagree
That fucker is canny. Entirely too savvy and ambitious to screw up anything. He's pretty untouchable, given that it's impossible for Obama to un-invite him. He can just continue being his own disgusting self, and he'll remain unscathed.

Of course, given his girth, there's always the possibility of a heart attack or stroke. He might choke on a pretzel. Or a side of beef.

One can hope...........

8. He's an obvious egomaniac
I would lay money he actually makes some controversial comment in the innvocation. People like him can't stand it when the cameras go off.

7. Am I the only one in the world
Who figures that Pastor Warren has his own difficulties with the gay? For some reason, I keep getting this little whiff of hypocrisy every time he opens his mouth........

11. On His Own?
Or will someone ask him to be even more obnoxious?

I remember James Watt stepping down for verbal diarrhea. But his comment, "Two blacks, A Jew, A woman, and a cripple..." was so politically incorrect that I've always suspected that he was 'asked' to make it.

Then again George Allan said macaca without prompting.

12. That's not saying much for Obama if he has to wait for Warren to do something worse than he has. nm
