Police: Missing Baby Story "Fabricated"
Megan McCormick Charged With Filing A False Police Report
MIAMI (CBS4) ―

The search for a baby, reportedly missing since December 23rd has been called off after Miami police say the whole story was fabricated by a woman who claimed to be the missing child's mother.

That woman, Meagan McCormic, has now been charged with filing a false police report.

According to Miami police detective Freddy Ponce, Meagan McCormic made up the story about her missing 6-month old son Riley Buchness, to cover up the fact that she had a miscarriage six months ago and didn't want her ex-boyfriend, John Buchness, to know the truth.

Detective Ponce explained to CBS4's Marybel Rodriguez that when Buchness came to town from Boston for the holidays to visit McCormic and his son, she made up the story about the baby disappearing with a nanny.

DU spotted the problems with this story yesterday:

1. I wonder if she was collecting child support payments from the ex-boyfriend
for a child that didn't exist.

8. Yes!
:hi:

Hope you did too.

We (including mother-in-law) set a new Christmas sloth record: wake at noon, breakfast at 2PM, nap, dinner at 11PM, presents at 1AM on the 26th. Greatest Christmas ever. But do not attempt if there are children in the house.

10. That sounds like the Best Christmas Ever!
I, of course, have no such luck. I woke up around 3:30 AM to answer nature's call, and there was Baby Bunny - in her room playing her PS2. She wanted to know if it was time to wake up yet. :eyes: I put her off till about 5:00, then I had to get everyone else up so she could open her stuff. It was an early start to a long but really very pleasant day.

Glad you had a nice time.

6. Well that makes sense. Obviously she wouldn't use a friend's picture.
Thanks.

9. Who's to say she was every really pregnant in the first place?
Why do they believe her on that point when she's a proven liar?

11. I thought the whole thing looked extremely fake.
The distraught father act on the video was really bizzare and fake looking too. Wierd.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/12/26/missing.baby.hoax/index.html

she invented the story to lure him back. He showed up and asked to see the child. She told him child was missing. He attended press conference not knowing that child didn't exist.
