Poll question: what American do you admire most for the year 2008?
When I posted an article earlier today reporting that polls showed that Barack Obama was America's most admired man - a couple of posters suggested that the President-Elect's support was lower on DU than among the general public - link: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x4718618

So I thought I would test the question here and now.

What American (public figure) do you admire most for the year 2008?

7. I suppose I should have included him, but there was only space for 10 answers
so I had to think of people most frequently spoken of in glowing terms on this forum. I am sure there are others I have missed

She is the epitome of grace. She has had a horrible year yet continues to speak on the behalf of millions without health care. I hope and pray that this wonderful woman has a good 2009.

14. I'm thinking....John McCain
His choice of Sarah Palin as running mate not only destroyed his campaign, the GOP, and the Religious Right, but showed a truly unique cynicism that will take generations to top. As an added bonus, we get the arguably smartest President since Roosevelt (either Roosevelt) to clean up the mess BushCo left behind.

27. indeed, a truly unique cynicism that will take a generation to top
for someone to knowingly and intentionally appoint to a position of potential leader of the free world and commander and chief of the strongest military empire the word has ever known - someone who is obviously and transparently a profoundly irrational and ignorant dimwit - an utter airhead - vastly exceeding even the incumbent President...to have done this purposely to ones own country..during a period of national and international crisis when America's credibility in the world is already at the lowest it has perhaps ever been while campaigning on the slogan. "Country First" reflected a crassness of cynicism that would have made Richard Nixon gasp.

If cynicism is a virtue, John McCain is truly worthy of veneration.

last free ride for the Dems as far as I'm concerned.

19. I absolutely adore Dennis Kucinich! He fought endlessly to get Bush & Cheney impeached...
And besides that, he had the best, most progressive platform for America when he ran for president. Whenever he spoke at the debates, things finally started to get interesting. Can I still say I wish he had been elected president or will that get me thrown of now?

some of dennis's comments/attitudes about women made me cringe, though - so Zinn won out.
