Home for the holidays: Local man gives another home to Habitat for Humanity
Home for the holidays: Local man gives another home to Habitat for Humanity

A Richfield family is feeling for the first time, the true meaning of "home for the holidays."

And thanks to the gift of one local man, another family will enjoy that same feeling next year.

Sheri Berthold and her children, Alyshia and Anthony Hott, are spending their first Christmas in their Richfield home, donated by Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity.

The home was originally a gift from Larry Hossfeld, a 2008 Eleven Who Care winner, who just last week, informed Habitat for Humanity he'd be giving yet again.

Hossfeld informed the organization he is donating another home to a family this year.

"Larry, he has a huge heart. It's hard to put into words the gratitude we have for him," said Brian Juntti with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity.

Juntti said the gift also comes at a critical time, given donations are down this year.

"It's important to get a contribution like this, especially during this economy," he said.

Still, Juntti says, the organization has managed to build 50 homes in the Twin Cities metropolitan area this year.

As for Sheri and her family, they are saving up to buy a new car.

Sheri, who works for a data entry company right now, is also planning on going back to school.

She says she's grateful for the fresh start for her family. "There's no way to describe it, really, it's just joy," Sheri said.

He used to do this while on summer break from college. So even if you can't give the money for a house, you can help in other ways.

(somehow I double posted and so thought I'd add something else about Habitat)

5. The 40 or so percent
of the working poor will always need assistance unless the really rich investor class insists that they take less from their investment so that companies can PAY the working poor a living wage instead.
