Historians rate Bush "worst president" again...
Asked to rank the presidency of George W. Bush in comparison to those of the other 41 American presidents, more than 61 percent of the historians concluded that the current presidency is the worst in the nation’s history. Another 35 percent of the historians surveyed rated the Bush presidency in the 31st to 41st category, while only four of the 109 respondents ranked the current presidency as even among the top two-thirds of American administrations.

The reason for the hesitancy some historians had in categorizing the Bush presidency as the worst ever, which led them to place it instead in the “nearly the worst” group, was well expressed by another historian who said, “It is a bit too early to judge whether Bush's presidency is the worst ever, though it certainly has a shot to take the title. Without a doubt, it is among the worst.”

“George Bush has combined mediocrity with malevolent policies and has thus seriously damaged the welfare and standing of the United States,” wrote one of the historians, echoing the assessments of many of his professional colleagues. “Bush does only two things well,” said one of the most distinguished historians. “He knows how to make the very rich very much richer, and he has an amazing talent for f**king up everything else he even approaches. His administration has been the most reckless, dangerous, irresponsible, mendacious, arrogant, self-righteous, incompetent, and deeply corrupt one in all of American history.”

1. There really are some people left who think the past 8 years was a success?
Success to some people apparently means not bringing about the End of Days...

4. Four years ago articles like this were excruciating to read
It's much easier to read them now, even though so much more damage has been done since then, because of the sheer relief of knowing there's less than a month to go until competent, intelligent people are going to be in charge and the "let them eat cake" era will be over.

8. I've always been happy to call him the worst president ever...
...but are we really worse off now than the country was in March of 1861 on the brink of a shooting war with ourselves? My assessment is no we are not. Close but not the equivalent of 646,392 killed in action. So my assessment is second worst president ever. I did entertain the idea that the crisis in 1861 was not engineered by Buchanan and that he was simply the hapless politician who occupied the office when the proverbial shit hit the fan. Juxtapose that with the idea that Bush is the architect of his own ineptitude and a case can still be made for Bush but I still have to award him only the silver in this category. We are still one country after all despite what some wingnuts would like to see happen.

"The reason for the hesitancy some historians had in categorizing the Bush presidency as the worst ever, which led them to place it instead in the “nearly the worst” group, was well expressed by another historian who said, “It is a bit too early to judge whether Bush's presidency is the worst ever, though it certainly has a shot to take the title. He has another twenty some more days to do even more damage to us and the world once he is out then we can say it with a definite certainty!

13. as if his record improved since the last time they asked this question
most presidents come into office seeking to be great, or at least solidly good, presidents, and recognize certain political payoffs and maneuvers as the unfortunate price of admission, a necessary evil for securing the political support needed to do what you really want to do.

for shrub, the political payoffs and maneuvers WERE the reason he wanted to become president. his primary objective was to make his rich buddies richer, steer business to cronies, and appoint partisans. he hoped that a legacy of greatness would simply, magically come to him without having done a thing to earn it.

i suppose he simply had faith that "greatness" is in large part luck of the draw. the times make the man. or, in shrub's case, the post.

18. I like the "the most reckless, dangerous, irresponsible, mendacious, arrogant, self-righteous,
incompetent, and deeply corrupt in all of American history" and would add, among others, the most war-mongering, malevolent, malicious, warped, extreme, hateful, duplicitous, devious, reichous, treacherous, discordant, oxymoronic, sanctimonious, destructive, unfeeling, uncaring, law-breaking, and Constitution-shredding regime to grace a major world power since WWII.

That's the worst part. And that's what makes this the worst presidency ever.

That part needs to go on a plaque.
