Let's play "6 Degrees of Seperation" from Barack Obama. I'll go first!

How many degrees away is Elena? 2?

I provided business services to the City of Chicago Office of the Mayor when Michelle Robinson worked there. She was considered "tough" -- in the way that decisive, busy, no-nonsense professional women are considered tough. In the way women who won't take free lunches or gifts from any vendors are considered tough. She was a diplomatic professional.

She was obviously going places. Bigtime. And people were shocked when she married "some African guy" AND took his last name, even professionally.

Elena's also 2 degrees from Kevin Bacon but that's another war story.

12. I've worked with my husband in several theatre productions. He worked with James Remar
in an outdoor symphonic production in the 1970s. Jamie worked with Darryl Hannah in THE CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR. Darryl Hannah worked with Tom Hanks in SPLASH. Tom Hanks worked with Kevin Bacon in APOLLO 13.

So I'm five from Kevin Bacon... although I think I can get there in less moves if I go another route.

So, by virtue of my answering your post, you are, at most, six degrees from Kevin Bacon!

13. USRep. Neil Abercrombie (D-HI) has known Barack since infancy. When Abercrombie was first in politics
... running for the Hawaii State Legislature, I met and chatted with him; had a T-shirt silk-screened with his campaign stuff, that kind of thing.

Of course that was about 1970 and the man doesn't know me from Adam, but still.

19. 3, bordering 2...
My Brother-In-Law (Administrator in Omaha Public Schools)
Warren Buffet (Large Contributor to OPS.)
President Obama. (Has Buffet on his Economic Advisory Committee)

I'll try to widdle it down to two.

Sentator Mike Enzi (R-WYO) Spoke at my Coffee Shop. (This was my Business Partner's Idea)
President Obama. (Served with Enzi in the Senate)

Neither Strings would get me into the White House very quickly.
Mr. Buffet would be slow in responding to my Brother in Law and Senator Enzi wouldn't remember me.

31. In a city park in Des Moines, IA, back in August '01.
We were having an outdoor staff meeting in the park while Bush was jogging there. The secret service came over to our group and did a quick search of everyone and then Bush jogged over and shook our hands. He was real sweaty and gross from running.

It was cool to meet a president that way, even Bush.

Major donor to nonprofit I founded.
Obama.

and for bonus points:

Tom Tancredo (Please don't hit me! We all have questionable figures in our past, and if one is a former Republican, even a former liberal Republican, one probably has had address books that needed to be buried with a wooden stake through them)

Tom Delay (Ewwwwwwww. Now I have to shower)

Cousin Cheney (There may be a direct connection between Tancredo and Cheney, but given the sheer number of congresscritters I will assume otherwise)

33. I can do it in one. Obama voted for S.3880 in 2006*
It's the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, and it prejudices justice and seeks to someday put someone like me and friends of mine in jail.

*It passed the Senate with unanimous consent, but no vote tally was taken. Erego, Barack is assumed to have voted for it.

I met a man who had gone to school with Obama's mother. I think it was high school.

So it goes:

me> random dude> Stanley Ann> Barack Obama

Is that three or two? I'm not sure if it's 1-random dude, 2-mom, 3-Obama or if it's 1-random dude, 2-mom. How do I count this?
