Sen. Reid Hits the Ground Running in Uphill Re-Election Bid
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Harry Reid will command the biggest party majority of any Senate leader in a quarter century when the new Congress convenes in January. But the Nevada Democrat is already worried about his own re-election fight in 2010.

Sen. Reid, perhaps the most-vulnerable Democrat who will face re-election in a midterm race that is likely to favor his party once again, began interviewing campaign managers last week. The Senate majority leader also recently stepped up fund-raising.

Starting early could help Sen. Reid avoid the fate of his predecessor, Tom Daschle, who was Democratic leader for a decade before losing his re-election bid in South Dakota in 2004. The current Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, narrowly won re-election in Kentucky this year.

2. How *dare* you speak ill of our jellocrats!
... or would they be considered spaghetti spines? (cooked spaghetti)

9. "Jellocrats" -- that's a really good one
"Spaghetti spines" is good, too, but "jellocrats" is catchier.

11. He's also got the Prop 8/Mormon church thing to deal with
From what I've heard he maintains a faithful membership in the LDS church. He may find himself in a difficult position of either denouncing the church (which may then turn around and censure him) or losing the election.

He's probably the only Democrat to find any silver lining in the Rev. Warren fiasco. It has certainly taken the heat and attention off the Mormon Church.

3. I think it would be wise for Harry to focus on his re-election and give up his
leadership position... please?

12. Yep. I agree completely. We sure can't afford to lose that seat.
Harry should abdicate his leadership positon for the good of the Democratic party, er, I mean country. Sorry.

5. Anybody in NV know of anyone we can support to knock Reid off in the
primaries? There's a list of people who must go.

Oh, liberal bastion SF, all of you who re-elected Nancy Pelosi have blood on your hands now as far as I'm concerned. Nancy approves of * and you approve of Nancy.

8. It may be that you haven't been paying attention
Like lots of others, Reid has been playing the Beltway game all the way down the line. The revelation that he was among those briefed on the domestic spying program all along is grounds enough for me to want to see him gone. Of course, if it comes to a choice between him and a GOPuke then I would support him. If there was a legit Dem out there, though, I'd much rather lost Reid.

On the other hand, considering what happened with Lamont and Lieberman, if we did knock Reid out of the Dem line the rest of the herd would trip over themselves fighting to elect Reid on some other line, like the FLat Earth or the Rising Lizard party.

Hey, how did that one work out, oh political experts? The only good thing about that was that it proved Obama IS human and DOES make mistakes.

19. Janurary 20th, watch Reid. Reid got exactly what he had been trying to get, now is where the rubber
meets the road. What will he do with all of that power? He's clean and uncorrupted. I expect to see some darn good laws, soon.

15. Any primary challengers jumping in the ring?
The Republicans are still pretty discombobulated in Nevada, and even if they weren't, chances are good that they'd bring forth a complete douchenozzle, so the best would be for a Democrat to challenge Reid in the primary season and throw his ass to the curb then.

like the one's on this board who trash him every day

Nevada will be proudly swearing in a Republican in 2010.

The "left" did such a good job getting rid of Tom Daschle, afterall.

how's that working out for ya?

21. Yeah, there are many idiots who focus on attacking Congressional leaders because the media focuses
so much on them. They should be focusing on attacking the ones that the media lets slide by.

20. Will anyone challenge him in the primary?
We should always have the leadership positions occupied by people in SAFE seats... The opposition always tries even harded to unseat a leader, since it's "extra" demoralizing when they do.. We tried like crazy to knock off McConnell..

The person in charge of the senate and house should not be spending the majority of the last 2 years of their term, out trying to raise money and campaiging like crazy to try and win a squeaker..

In reality however, it's about horsetrading, arm twisting and effective patronage. Don't expect to get dealt a fair hand in a rigged casino.

26. The difference between Harry and Nancy:
(no, it's not just lipstick ;))

Nancy got legislation through the House. Like the auto bill.

Reid will drop a bill at the first sign of dissent from the Republicans.

a very large difference.

Just sayin'.
