Poll question: Which of the following will be the next President who is not a white man?
Having grown up in the South and witnessing active discrimination, I would have NEVER predicted an African American could win the Presidency while I was in HS and college in the 60's and 70's. In that world, it was unthinkable.

Times have changed! Can they change again? What will things look like 10 or 20 years from now. Here's your chance to predict the future! I didn't plan on offending anyone, so if my descriptions need an improvement, please add your comment. Maybe some of you could name your favorite possible candidate since some are obvious, but many would be new to those outside your experience.

2. OTHER. Distasteful as it may be to realize, George W. Bush is still the President.
The next President who is not a white man will be the biracial President-Elect, Barack H. Obama.

4. From what I saw in Florida, I was absolutely convinced that Bush lost (twice)!
I saw a DRE switch votes and was asked to leave the voting area when I complained...so technically shrub's last few days are the end of an illegal election anyway for me.

12. Unfortunately, that doesn't matter. Once the bum is administered the oath of office, sketchy
election notwithstanding, he's got the gig.

I think he lost twice, too. The first time, the Supreme Court handed the decision to him, and the second time, Kerry didn't fight the Ohio business.

But then, we know he's not the first public official, up to and including the President...to rig/fix votes. It's happened in this Democratic society before, unfortunately.

3. I notice that an atheist doesn't even make the list...
I agree. This country would elect a foreign-born, black, handicapped Jewish lesbian with a criminal record before they'd elect an atheist.

5. Do I hear an Amen?
I'm afraid you are correct. We need religion to keep those wars going. God says so.

6. I'm not sure if we haven't had atheists, but none that I know of openly said so...
even Jefferson was a pretty strange "Christian". I agree though, an active declared atheist or agnostic should be on the list. Sorry that I didn't think of it.

9. No current Arabic politicians come to mind, but we have lots of mideast
immigrants in Florida; so it would be a good addition to the list.

8. When I thought about things that have changed....
I watched Barney Frank on a news show last week, and even if he is not your favorite, he is an example of a gay politician who has to get some respect.

Richardson was one of my early favorites in the primaries.

Hillary may have some baggage, but she really did have a chance to win.

In fact, if you look back just a little, having Oprah and Rachel Maddow on TV would have been impossible at the beginning of the baby boom generation that is just now retiring.

Maybe, just maybe, Obama is the start of a new way of thinking and the shrubs are a dying breed. I don't mind if people are passionate about their rights even if it causes some dissonance.
