Reminder to post correctly about Israel/Palestine issues. (public service reminder)
Posts about Israel/Palestine will be moved to the I/P forum per DU rules. Here is the direct link to that forum: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=124

The I/P forum has specific rules about how to post: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=124x21970

If you wish your topic to stay open, to not be locked, after it is moved, please follow the posting guidelines which are different than those for GD. The reasons I see given for most lockings after moving are:

1) Picture: "Do not embed graphics or photographs of any kind into your messages. Maps or statistical graphs are okay."

2) Source: "Please use discretion when referencing obviously biased or factually questionable material. Vanity websites are generally not as credible as the New York Times, the Washington Post or the UK Guardian and are likely to be locked. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself is the author readily identifiable and likely to be cited by the mainline world press or encountered in an alternate format (mass-published book, academic journal, newspaper article, radio or TV show)."

3) Not based on a proper source: "New threads must be based on a recently-published news item or op-ed piece. They may not be based on editorial cartoons or photographs. Citations and references should include a link to the original source. Exceptions will be allowed if, based on prior approval, the moderators feel a thread is appropriate."

Please note that each of the clips above is not the total rule/guidelines, but only part.

1. Do pictures include those in the signature line? If so
why is it that we can use pictures in our signature lines in all other forums but I/P? It takes a lot of effort to change the pictures and put it back for those of us who browse multiple forums.

2. I think sig line picts are ok unless they are specifically about I/P issues
Go to the link in OP about the rules and look, but I think that is what it is.

I simply would like discussions to stay open and not get locked after being moved because the OP put a pict in it and while that is fine in GD, it falls outside I/P rules.

4. I agree with you, but would like to be able to have news posted at least.
I like seeing articles people post, even if the replies descend into flames. It would be nice to be able to talk openly and factually and politely. DU is not my private forum, will follow the rules and do appreciate people on all sides posting articles.

5. I'm not suggesting that people don't post. Sorry if it came out that way.
I'm simply bemoaning the utility of the forum...to no real effect.

6. That isn't how I took what you wrote.
Also bemoaning the utility of the forum, and the need for the utility of the forum.

7. Arguably the pivotal issue of our time: peace in ME
and the emotions run so high that it cannot even be discussed here uncensored. In a political forum we need to be treated like 2 yo's?

Thank you for the public service thing, I was wondering why peace cannot be declared around the world. It's because discussion of ground zero for war-mongering is forbidden by the nanny-state. deservedly.

Too many people are easy marks for rabble rousing interests and war-profiteers.

All we are saying.... is give peace a chance?

9. If you have been through the Israel/Palestine wars here on DU in the past,

You know it's a no-win situation. Best to stay on the sidelines and ride the storm out.

10. I have been through a couple, it gets a bit much and posters get confused over the rules.
I/P OP's have strict rules. If someone choses to start an I/P post in GD or GD/P (or elsewhere), they need to realize it will probably get moved. If it gets moved, it is more likely to not get locked if it follows I/P OP rules.

Yrs back I was extremely frustrated at the locking after moving thing, which didn't seem fair since the OP followed the rules for the forum it was originally started in. So, I am trying to post an advisory so people may be able to not experience that frustration.

As far as who did what first and why and who did what next and why and who was first and what and why and all that, it is a mess and I wish everyone could figure out some way to get it settled, truly settled, without killing, harming, etc everyone else.

11. Night kick since people are still posting, having threads moved & locked for not being within
I/P guidelines and because I like to keep threads open, discussions going about important things in the world.

12. God forbid that the continuous atrocities be seen by the delicate flowers here,
Why should they "waste (their) beautiful mind(s) on something like that?"

13. Give links to pictures. Those who care will look.
I know, it isn't the same. Separate but equal. But, it is a private forum with that rule.

So, am kicking again since I see another locked thread about this, though, in fairness to the mods, I also see threads moved and combined with other threads rather than just locking. That seems like a fair thing to do, combining threads. Thank you mods for doing that.

15. What site did you find this on? you can pm me if need be
some websites are not supposed to be posted. If it is one of those whose existence is to snark at DU, oh well. I understand there are reasons for the rules, even though I wish there weren't.
