Senate Panel OKs war bill with Iraq deadline
LINK

A Senate committee approved a $122 billion measure Thursday financing wars in
Iraq and Afghanistan but also calling on President Bush to pull combat troops out of Iraq by next spring.

The bill, approved by a voice vote, is similar to one the House began debating Thursday. The White House has threatened to veto the House measure and issued a veto threat against an earlier, similar version of the Senate withdrawal language.

2. If the 'warlord' wants the money for his war; either sign the bill.........
as is or go without additional funds. The 'warlord' is painting himself into a corner; look forward to the impending meltdown.

3. But it's a 'non-binding' date...
Democrats Set Iraq Deadline In War Bill

Senate Democrats Include U.S. Troop Withdrawal Deadline In Military Spending Bill

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/21/ap/politics/main2594591.shtml

WASHINGTON, Mar. 22, 2007

snip-->

The measure would provide nearly $97 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and billions
more in domestic aid and emergency relief programs. It would require that Bush begin
bringing home some troops within four months of the bill's passage, setting a nonbinding
goal of having all U.S. combat troops out of Iraq by March 31, 2008.

The provision is similar to a resolution the Senate rejected last week. The vote then was 50-48,
12 shy of the 60 needed to pass, after Bush pledged to veto the legislation.

Democrats think the spending legislation has a much better chance. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb.,
who voted against last week's proposal, has agreed to support the spending bill because it
outlines benchmarks for the Iraqi government.

5. YW!
It pisses me off...all this 'non-binding' crap!

But if the Senate doesn't have the votes, I don't know what else they can do.

:grr:
