Protesters threw about 40 pairs of shoes outside the gates of the White House on President George W. Bush's last day in office.

<snip>
ANTI-WAR protesters were throwing shoes outside the gates of the White House on President George W. Bush's last day in office.

About 500 people marched to the White House and threw about 40 pairs of shoes at the gate while tourists looked on and took photos.

Supporters said they are acting in solidarity with Muntadhar al-Zeidi, the Iraqi reporter who threw his shoes at Bush during a news conference in Baghdad in December.

The event was sponsored by the Washington Peace Centre, the local chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War and other groups.

Organiser Jamilla El-Shafei said on Monday the event allows protesters to express their anger over Mr Bush, who she said is 'leaving with no accountability for eviscerating our constitution.' -- AP

--------------
Rachel said one man was arrested - his shoe got over the gate.

3. I don't remember any President and VP
hated like these two - not even Nixon.

They leave at 22% approval for Bush and 13% for Cheney. Shooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! :puke:

4. If I strain, I can remember back to Truman.......
and, no, there has never been anything like this.

The closest I can recall is Nixon's resignation. While some of us cheered - we were law students - the mood of the nation was mostly sadness and disbelief and relief.

But the enmity here, the loathing, the absolute, flat-out hatred is unmatched in my long time on this planet. I have never seen anything like it. Never. I'm thinking of the French Revolution, which is, I guess, as close as we can come.

It's our revolution, isn't it?

2. A fitting farewell...
since we're likely not to get the impeached, indicted and imprisoned wish we'd like.

6. I have to agree with you.......
I believe the deal has been struck - Chimpy sat on his pardon power in exchange for no prosecution.

7. Oh, I hope so.
I had a dream that everywhere he went, he was pelted with shoes. I'll never get within 1,000 miles of him, but the next time I step in dog crap, I'll not be so quick to toss my shoes. I'll pack them up and save them, just in case Chimpy comes to town.

9. Oh yes
Not one book will be written about this period without those two shoes. At his funeral, the talking heads will show a clip - the ultimate FUCK YOU GEORGE BUSH!!
