Also, Denzel's not skinny enough anymore.

24. I used to show that movie to my high school students.
They'd start whining that it was Shakespeare, but then I'd tell them the women were in pretty sheer white, low-cut dresses and the men in tight leather pants, and somehow, they always managed to pay attention. ;)

28. I was just following Shakespeare's example.
I will admit, though, that explaining the nurse's joke in R&J and the meaning of the word "dugs" and what her job really was probably wasn't my finest moment as a teacher, but at least it got them laughing and enjoying the play, if just for a moment.

I still giggle over explaining the watchman's jokes in Macbeth at the Catholic girls school where I first taught. "It makes a man stand to and not stand to" practically brought the house down. :D

33. Haw!
Funny thing is, it looks like a shot from one of his movies. If he keeps throwing those Denzel "looks", the whole front row will stay empty.

"Uuuuuh-HUH! So you're just gonna sit down here like it's your due, your right, like you belong here. Is that what you're sayin'? Well, alright. Alright then. Sit yourself down. No, no, go on, sit down."

I've always found him amazingly gorgeous. You're right, though, that's his tough look. *shiver* I definitely would've embarrassed myself if I had to sit near him.

48. Oh, me too.
If anyone else had directed it, Branaugh and Denzel would've been switched in the casting. He would've been awesome in that part, as he's got great timing, and Benedick's all about great timing.

The best Benedick I've ever seen, though, was Colm Feore at the Stratford (Canada) Shakespeare Festival. He was amazing, sexy, and very, very good. *sigh*

30. He is a Republican

But maybe he isn't one of the crazy ones and decided to actually seize this moment in history. Plus maybe he really does care about this nation and wants to work together.

If he's THAT type of Republican, then we can work with him, but from everything I've ever seen he is a Republican.

38. He said some nice things...
...on the red carpet of an awards show--the year we'd just gone to war. A reporter was asking asinine questions, and he made it clear he was answering no nonsense when so many were concerned about the state of the nation, their family members fighting, etc.

I'm paraphrasing--but it wasn't a republican type of statement. Just respectful and conscious of where people's hearts and minds were at that time.

Thanks for sharing!

I honestly wasn't aware of his political affiliation. I thought if someone here said he was repubican, maybe he'd shared he was. Or someone assumed he was because Mr. Washington didn't bother to correct the assumption.

He's known for working hard to not identify w/anything that may alienate his fan base (those that pay to see his films).

I haven't seen any other Dems. FWIW, the National Black Republican Association claims him as a Repub.
