30. It looks good on him.
If he'd worn that sometime in the last eight years, I might have liked him better. Not much, but some.

34. Is that Scalia behind him? What's THAT silly hat he's wearing?
   Looks like someone from a Renaissance court! (The court jester? - no, I know that's a different hat - just felt like calling him a jester - or else a buffoon.)

8. True on both counts.
I'm thinking Aretha Franklin could wear just about anything at all and still make the headlines as a winner.

32. Aretha was on Larry King and said she was disappointed
in her own performance, she said it was not very good mostly because the cold weather hurt her voice. :-(

has the range in things that almost no one else has.

16. Speaking of inaugural hats, what was Tony Scalia wearing on his head?
I've been calling it the "Medici Hat" because it looks like something they might have worn but it was certainly, um, different.

And Poppy's hat looked like he was trying to be Davy Crockett or something.

I got a distinct sense of Kit Carson rising from the grave...

19. I kept screaming- "what's with the Daniel Boone hat"
Edited on Wed Jan-21-09 11:52 PM by Tumbulu
and the people around me got sort of sick of it. But really, was it some sort of symbolism of some kind? It was an outrageously rude hat, wasn't it? Is he going senile?

He probably thinks he's still the president.

That was a really crappy hat.

23. Hey there you good person you.
Yep. Ms. Franklin brought it down to the surface of the earth and made it glow, didn't she?

A very early profile piece in ROLLING STONE praised Aretha who by then had ascended to the top of the charts, hit after hit. The piece traced her early singing in her Reverend daddy's church choir.

The descripton of her vocal range from those early days stays with me: "She sang like she had God by the short hairs."

I took that to suggest she must have been a pretty confidant vocalist!

Besides which, her singing gets my fingers snapp'n and my toes tapp'n. She has to be one of my all time favorites!

Look someone gift wrapped Aretha for the Inauguration.

I love Aretha and was proud to have her sing The National Anthem at such a historic time.
