Let's organize against Limbaugh Advertisers
It is posted here that Geico has cancelled advertising on Limbaugh's show.

We need to organize and let ALL Limbaugh's advertisers know we plan to boycott their product/services as long as they advertise on Limbaugh's show. Also we need to let the advertisers know that we will be spreading the word via many of the same the internet and email connections that worked to get many Democratic Party canidates elected in 2006 and 2008.

He is entitled to free speech. But we don't have to support those who pay for his forum.

Limbaugh loves the attention he is getting. We need to hit him in the pocket book.

Limbaugh gets good ratings because he is syndicated in thousands of small and big radio markets. That presents the problem of local sponsors as well as national sponsors.

Unfortunatly we will need to listen to his show and keep a log of sponsors local and national.

I live in the Phila., Pa market and could keep a log for his show on 1210am on the dial.

Any interest in this? Any ideas on where and how we can base our activities.

3. I think that's a great idea.
After all, the Republicans have done this (generally) in the past with some success. Why can't we give it a try, especially when there are now more of "us" than "them"!

8. Somebody's going to have to provide a list...
I'll definitely shoot off emails to his sponsors, but if I had to actually gather the information myself by listening to his show I'd be in the hospital with a stroke.

9. Post Limbaugh Advertisers here!/Geico are good guys!
As people get the names of Limbaugh advertisers please post them here at DU General Discussions.

If the administrators here have a way to keep this a separate area please advise.

11. A previous thread on this really didn't produce a definitive list
of advertisers. There used to be a boycott Rush site, but I believe that is long gone.

17. I still clearly remember what happened to Sinclair
when the nascent blogosphere organized against them.

We're bigger, more organized, and more powerful now. It just takes more than just "want to" and DU. It'll take a lot of Facebooking, HuffPo, Kos, anywhere and everywhere that anyone can contact other progressives to write and call. It has to be more than DU or it'll be one tiny warm fart in a huge blizzard of cold wind.

Organize, then go forward. Just sayin'. That's what made the Sinclair campaign a success.

19. Radio...Just like Politics...Advertising Is Local...
Nothing wrong with going after the national advertisers. Right now radio is facing desperate times. Advertising revenues have fallen on average 20% each year for the past 5 years...falling behind cable TV and the internet. The economic collapse has all but dried up many of the traditional radio advertisers and those that are still buying are very discriminating about where those dollars are going...and they're not headed radio's way. The stock values of the major radio companies have collapsed...it's not a pretty picture at all.

Thus, if there was ever a time to strike, now's a good time...but here's the take of an old radio programmer and manager...a way that could be more effective in getting results. A visit or call to a local sponsor has a lot of weight. Nothing gets a station manager's attention faster than an unhappy sponsor. It'll get a lot faster response than a dozen phone calls or a hundred emails.

I would suggest listening to your local hate station...and note the local advertisers. Then, either drop by or give a phone call. Be polite and say how you had happen to hear their commercial on station WXXX as a sponsor of the Rushbo Show...then point out that you find this programming offensive and that by sponsoring this show, you're also encouraging hate to spill from the radio.

In some cases, you'll find out the advertiser who didn't know their commercials are running there. Many of these stations sell on bulk...the advertiser wants to get commercials on the Top 40 station and has to also buy the hate station...or buys a cheap schedule (usually done through an agency) with little knowledge or say on when and where their commercials air. You may be surprised in how cooperative they become once they're aware of where their advertising dollars are being spent. Of course you'll run into a few that will say "so what"...but then that will tell you a lot about that business and where not to spend your dollars.

While I don't advocate censoring or censorship...this is using a marketplace solution.

Cheers...

21. No. Rush is the voice of the party. What he says is the policy of the party,
no matter how wrong, racist, homophobic, xenophobic, and misogynistic. When Reps vote against a bill, they are doing it on the orders of El Rushbo.
